Have replaced cap, rotor, coil, wires, plugs, fuel pump. how do i test ignition control module? can it be anything else?. otherwise car runs fine, over 32 mpg in town.

on this distributor, the module is inside the distributor, thus no wire to pull off the cap.,

  • Tommy Walker May 11, 2010

You can pull the module wire off of the dist. cap and check for spark right out of the module. If no spark, bypass the module and see if you have spark from the distributor. If so, you need a module, if not then you have a distributor problem.

Let me know what you find.

Okay then you will have to replace the distributor, unless you are able to find the module and change that out. I would say that you probably will wind up spending the same, go with a new distributor. This assuming that you know for yourself for sure that you are having a spark problem.
Nothing against sol. #1 but the air flow meter and idle air control motor have nothing to do with what you asked.

Where is fuel pump harness on a 2000 escalade

DTC P1351 Ignition Coil Control Circuit High Voltage
The enhanced ignition system uses the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor in order to provide a timing input to the control module. Ignition control (IC) spark timing for each cylinder is based on this input. The control module provides the ignition timing signal to the ignition control module (ICM) to control the ignition coil. Each timing pulse detected by the ICM allows it to energize the ignition coil. A large secondary ignition voltage is induced in the secondary coil by the primary coil. This high voltage is switched to the correct spark plug by the distributor.
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will set if the VCM- (vehicle control module ) detects an unusually high voltage on the ignition timing signal circuit.
Diagnostic Aids
Intermittent test -- If the connections and the harness check OK, monitor a digital voltmeter connected between VCM terminal C3 pin 9 and C4 pin 18 while moving related connectors and wiring harness. If the failure is induced, the voltage reading will change. This may help to isolate the location of the malfunction.
An intermittent may be caused by any of the following conditions:
?€¢
A poor connection

?€¢
Rubbed through wire insulation

?€¢
A broken wire inside the insulation
Thoroughly check any circuitry that is suspected of causing the intermittent complaint. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
If a repair is necessary, refer to Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Sounds like you replaced alot of parts for nothing.
The pickup coil in the distributor "fires" the module which grounds the coil and the injectors.
Those components would need to be tested. The coil fires the plugs when the ground is removed by the module or the key switch.

Cut off while driving replaced fuel relay switch, fuel pump wont cut off with switch plugged in, also no or intermittent fire at plugs replaced distributor and coil, ignition control module passed test at...

sounds like you have an electrical problem, get a diagnosis, and see if all your fuses and everything are all getting power, and if they are, then try replaceing the rotor on the distributor cap

No power to fuel pump and no spark jump power to

Spark comes to the plugs, via through the ignition switch ( in the on position) to the primary side of coil. Possibilities ignition switch, distributor cap , rotor, plug wires, coil, control module. If you remove the coil, control module these can be tested at Autozone for free.
