1995 volvo 850 glt station wagon's brakes make car shake when wet

Every time I drive my car in the rain or snow, my car's brakes seem to make the car shake. The steering wheel shakes and it seems as if the car is going to fall apart. It only does it when it is wet. The brakes also seem to smell every now and then.

Hello,
That's good News! it means your A.B.S. system is working correctly, I know what you mean as it frightened me the first time in my 960, made a gruff gruff grinding noise and pulsing through the footbrake pedal, I drive a B.M.W. touring and in the recent snow I was pleased to feel a similar thing.
Hope this takes out your worries!
As for the smell, have your brakes examined for wear.

It would help to have some symptoms or details. But in general ABS really sucks. I would disconnect it and go with driver control.

ODOMETER DOES NOT WORK . has same milage since i brought 1 month ago i have 95 volvo 850 wagon glt

Have the same car in the saloon version with the same problem. Apparently it's common with Volvos. Probably it's a gear on the odometer that's broken. Do a search on google for this problem and you will find step by step guides on how to fix it yourself and where to buy the part.

Brakes on my '95 volvo 850 glt are soft and tighten up after pumping them...could be leaking some fluid....what do you recommend

Sounds like air in the brakes - no good. First check that there are no leaks in the brake tubes. Then add brake fluid. Remember to chase out the air from the system.

Installing drive belt

Hope this helps! If the belt seems too long for this configuration, some later models route differently to get more contact with the alternator pulley to reduce slippage:

Volvo 850 GLT's brakes??

if the pulsating in the steering occurs while braking this is an indications that the rotors are out of round and need to be turned or replaced. if they are causing a pulsating while driving without braking it could be the calipers sticking.

your back brakes will be cooler than the front brakes as the majority of braking is done ith the front brakes even on four wheel disc brakes. hope this helps.
