2006 s60 intermittant start problem...key will not turn!

I have been having trouble with key not turning in the ignition to start car. I just bought preowned warrantied S60 2 months ago. Problem started a month ago. Sometimes it turns smoothly and others I have to really work to turn even the first position to start car. Can anyone help? I found the only way is to turn key toward me and dig in hard and turn away to start. Is this normal? Sometimes takes a few tries and a lot of frustration.

I bought a loaner as pre owned certified. and later discovered that interlock mcable to ignition was gummed up due to spilled coffee in console.

Intermittent problem starting 2002 volvo s60.

the symtoms you describe sounds like a battery fault. but if you have had the battery properley tested and is good then you either have something discharging the battery intermittantly ie. trunk light staying on or a high resistance in the main battery leads or earth connections

I have an 2006 h3 . problem is that every once in a while it does not start , cranks but no start , i do not hear the fuel pump when you first turn the key , if i leave it for about half an hour then it...

Wow... My 2006 H3 has similar intermittent starting problems. I've noticed the starter seems to "run on" for a second or two...after returning the ignition key to off. It's' happened during cold start-ups.... and at normal operating temperatures. I couldnt find much information on it but since the ignition system appears to reset itself after 20 or 30 minutes.... I'm swaying towards checking the ohms resistance of the ignition key chip and its relationship to the fuel shutoff circuit managed by the security system. I'll let you know how it goes.... wyatt

Occasionally the shift lock cable can stick and cause this problem. Try jiggling the shifter and see if that helps. You may need to replace the cable.

The chip in the key is purely electrical and will not prevent the key from mechanically turning the ignition switch.

the next time that happens wiggle the stering wheel. you might have an ignition lock on the car that locks the key in one spot.
