Think i asked the wrong q? Need to replace V-Belt

My large belt that goes behind the fan to get to all the pulleys (somehow affects the power steering), believe it is called the v-belt popped. Is there a diagram where I can just put this thing back on... just bought another one from Auto Zone

How do I replace the broken fan belt on my y2000 Mazda Bravo 2wd petrol ute? I need to know which parts to loosen, and how to loosen them, so I can slip the belt over the pulleys. I can see where the

you need a cerpentine belt tool. check out all the pulleys and you will find that one has a square hole in the bracket holding the roller. that arm is spring loaded to maintain tension on the belt. Its not easy for the first time to do this job. The route the belt goes will be on a sticker diagram somewhere under the hood. sometimes they are on the under side of the hood, while sometimes they are on the car's grill frame. it is usually best to put the belt on all the pulleys except the alternator, then pull the tension pulley arm to facilitate the belt slipping onto the alternator pulley. Do not attempt to put it on the tension pulley last. and be careful the tension pulley tension can give you quite a severe pinch if you get your fingers caught under the belt.

Removal of Fan on 1999 Chevy Tahoe

If your talking about the fan on the water pump,, 2 ways,,, pair of needle nose vise grips and clamp the pulley from behind so it cant turn then use the proper size wrench to loosen the large nut CCW,, i think its a 32mm. Or if you have access to a hand held air hammer with a flat chisel head put it on the egde of the nut to loosen,, this works great,,all it takes is a second to break it loose,,,, leave the belt on while loosening to hold the pulley using this method,, you can also leave the belt on using the vise grips to ,,but you might have to replace the belt if you damage it,, wrap a little black tape or somthing simular around the vise jaws

My car starts and is ok when it is parked but as soon as I start driving, it gets VERY difficult to steer, the battery symbol illuminates, and the temp gauge rapidly goes into the red zone. What's wrong??...

Hello E beyuka.
All the things wrong you mentioned are all affected by the drive belt.
The drive belt turns the pulleys for the power steering (hard to turn), the alternator(charges battery) and the water pump(overheats).
Check the drive belt and the pulleys. The belt could also be loose and slipping on the pulleys.
This should lead you to the source of the problem.
I hope your repair goes well. Thank you for using FixYa.

Air Conditioning

Be carefule of hot parts and rotating/moving belts and pulleys.

If its a whine, most likely the bearings on the idler pulley or the bearings on the ac compressor clutch.
-To trouble shoot with engine running and ac on spray wd40 on bearing area of clutch then wait a few seconds to see if sound goes away. If not then try bearing area(behind bolt of pulley) of idler. This will work as temporay fix, but ultimatly you must replace bad bearing.Do NOT spray on belt or pulley surface.

If its a squeal could be the belt is loose and needs to be replaced or dressed.
-Belt dressing can be spray directly on belt while engine is running and ac is on.

The large belt that goes over several pulleys is not broken, the huge round thing attached to a rod broke off, there are no screws , it would have to be welded or replaced. I need to see a picture to show...

Hello srmlj: My name is Roger and I will help you. From what you described I would think either the water pump shaft broke or the belt tensioner broke. Attached is a belt diagram that lists the components that te belt runs. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. This way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Rogeraca6a01.jpg
