Volkswagen Beetle Convertible Power Window Release

When you ope the door on a Volkswagen Beetle convertible the window automatically drops one 3/4 inch. Then, when you shut the door it goes up to make a tight seal with the convertible top. The driver side is not doing this anymore. Any ideas how tom fix this? Thanks, Eric

I had the exact same problem and got it fixed by our personal mechanic. We don't like our dealership. He had to replace the motor that operates the window. It was pretty expensive--I believe over $200. Now it seems like my passenger side is sticking a bit. Interesting that the problem happened the same time yours did.

I also have the exact same problem, I agree with the thought of that
the door is not recognised as being opened.if the interior or door light does not work when the door is opened. However i would like to know where is this faulty microswitch in the door lock mechanism, you recommended the whole lock mechanism to be replaced. How can you replace it, and what parts should i buy

We have the same problem with our 03 convertable. First it was the passenger door window and now it's the driver's door window. The windows work fine, it just doesn't respond when the door is opened or shut.

I would think the door is not recognised as being opened.if the interior or door light does not work when the door is opened its probally due to a faulty microswitch in the door lock mechanism, the whole lock mechanism will need to be replaced.

2007 Beetle convertible, window doesn't drop

Possibly just a relay telling the window to lower slightly has gone bad. If it's only when the top is put up or down, you can either lower the windows yourself (most cost effective since it's not a major inconvenience), take it to a dealer if you are still under warranty, or check to see if there is a sensor or relay that has gone bad, causing this malfunction.

Beetle Convertible window problem

My wife's car is a 2004 convertible. We had the same problem. There is a switch built into the door latch assembly. Whenever you pull either the interior or exterior door handle, the switch lowers the door glass a certain amount.

We replaced the door latch assembly and that corrected the problem.
