Question about 1999 GMC Sonoma

1 Answer

Severe oil leak and high oil pressure

My truck is leaking oil badly. the oil pressure is well above 80. I can see where its leaking from but dont know what its called. If i look at the motor from the wheel well I can see the oil filter, just to the left of it there is a hole where there was obviously a part that broke off. The oil is coming from that hole. Please tell me what part is missing so I can fix it.
Thanx

Maybe the dipstick tube fell out? Unless there's a hole in the block or something.

What are codes p1249 & p1211

P1211 Injector Control Pressure Sensor Above / Below Desired P1249 Wastegate Control Valve Performance
P1211 We all know that this code is commonly caused by "Hot Chips" that are demanding more Injection Control Pressure (ICP) than the High Pressure Oil Pump can deliver. For what it's worth, these are the exact parameters that trigger this code:
  • ICP 410psi Higher Than Desired for 7 Seconds
  • ICP 280psi Lower Than Desired for 7 Seconds
This code can also be caused by legitimate High Pressure Oil System issues. Below is a list of some of the causes:
  • Failed or Sticking IPR (Injection Pressure Regulator)
  • Failed or Weak HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump)
  • Any Leak in High Pressure Oil System (o-ring, stuck injector, etc.)
  • Low Fuel Pressure (Rare)

P1249 it is the HPOP, above or below pressure, if you have added a performance chip to your vehicle , you will get this code from time to time, basically its Turbo over boost

Oil pressure gauge goes up to 80 pounds

80 lbs is good. It's more like around 50, it's probably the oil sending unit. Take a look at it aand make sure it in't leaking. If there is any oil covering it and none coming from above it is leaking. I don't know engine size, but they are usually located around the oil filter.

I owned a audi 80 avent 1994 car when I go at 120kmph about 3100 rpm the oil pressure light indicator comes on. pls answer

check if there an old leak..the oil light come on if low or high..but most likely you have an oil leak some where...if not..than it must be the oil pressure sensor not give the correct reading....

Oil leak above the oil filter, may be the oil senser. I may drive 50-80 miles without a problem and then my warning light comes on for low oil and I have to add 2-3 quarts of oil.

Oil leak can be attributed to several factors.
1. Gasket failure.
2. Uncontrolled Crank case pressure Failure.

RECOMENDATION:
Tighten both the valve cover and oil pan bolts.
Replace the Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve and vacuum line.,

INFO: PCV
This is a valve causes a negative vacuum on the engine while its running, As to say if it had a leak in a valve cover it should not be leaking while its running, only when the engine it turned off.

Hope this tip guides you in the correct direction to solve this problem.

Oil leaking from some sort of plug above the oil filter

If the leak is coming directly from above the oil filter it is more than likely the oil pressure switch is leaking. The seal around the Oil pressure switch could have gone bad and now it is leaking.

The oil pressure switch is located right above the the oil filter and above the cooling system cross pipe.
