Just got the car back from the shop it was put in because it wasnt idling properly when at a light, the tack would bounce up and down from 10,000 rpm, engine light came on. Mechanic cleaned the idle sensor, engine light was out and ran fine for about a week and a half, now it is raining cats and dogs and starting the car is difficult and when it is idling the tack is bouncing again and it sounds like it wants to stall. Engine light came on after 30 mins driving the car, now it is on when I turn the car on or off. Engine light has been fooling me for some time now because of the gas cap. Now that it is raining and really damp could my spark plugs be wet from all the rain or could it be that the idle sensor needs to be replaced? Car hasnt had new plug, rotor, cap for over a year..............guess I should change those first to see if it is the problem.............
**I have a 98 cavalier also. the air/oil separator was clogged with slug. there should be 2 tubes(1 to the oil, the other to the intake). my tube to the oil was clogged up badly so the one to the air intake wasn't functioning properly which caused a computer-like glitch which cause the car to stall randomly. no replacing nothing, just clean out the valve and the car should run normal again.
Yes needs a tune up sounds like idle air motor bad or tps read codes
