Question about 1990 Ford F150

1990 f150 automatic does nothing when i put it in drive/reverse

My 1990 f150 does nothing when i put it in drive or reverse, the engie is still running, but it wont go either way, when i looked under the truck there is dry up tranmission fuild all over the ground, would that cause my truck to do that?

If you have a transmision leak or have had a tranny leak then yes your fluid level is prob low and would cause it to do that

1990 Ford F150 Rpm revs up two or three thousand RPM when in gear


Its sounds like your trans clutch plates are wearing out try thicker oil or it may be time for a serious replacement

If you check and drain your oil that's where you'll find your answers its supposed to be bright red not brown or smell like burnt so its a start to begin checking

Take it to someone who has a coolant system pressure tester. They can pressurize the system and do a visual inspection to find the leak for you.

you might have a clog in the trans. screen you need to open the trans. pan after you drain it look at the fluid and see if you have to clean it see if it burnt or what you might just need to tune the trans new bands

I believe we call that a planetary gear, found in the rear of the transmission. Its gone.

Automatic trans will not drive in reverse but shifter slides into reverse


I had the same problem. I changed the transmition by an used one. It was fast, money and future problems save.
