Headlights won't work 95 jeep cherokee

My headlights will not work when the ignition is turned, except for the brights and only if I hold the switch back. Once I turn the car off, the regular headlights will work and shut off automatically after a minute or so. What could this be?

I bought a light switch. I have not put it in yet. I am not sure how difficult it will be. It doesn't look too bad, but I am nervous anytime I mess with wires. Thank you for your help. I will try it out and let you know how it goes. Much appreciation. (((-_-)))

Two items to check. headlight relays and body control module. Also make sure firewall and dash grounding is good. Might also be a multi-function switch internal problem (part of directional switch) You need to test or without fail, you'll change everything and the last part changed will be the one with the problem.
Get a decent manual and a test light or better, volt meter.

I have a 95 mustang. headlights turn on but will turn themselves off when driving lol no fun at night! have to hold my brights?

First off do you have factory lights or the aftermaket high intensity bulbs. if you do get rid of them and replace them and your multifunction switch (headlight signal light high beam wiper switch)

Headlight switch on 95 jeep cherokee

Pretty sure there's a nut around the front where the shaft goes in, you may need to remove bottom panel to get your hand behind, then push small button on switch to disengage the shaft.

I have a 95 Cherokee sport and the headlight do not come on. We have checked the fuses and they appear to be good. Is there a circuit breaker for the headlight system?

Late one night on the way home from a night at a friends cabin on a lake, my headlights stopped working. So I stopped, after driving to a safe spot holding in the headlight high beam selector for emergency lights for about 15 mins. I checked all the fuses, with a tester, as well as a visual check, and they were all good, so I checked the relays by switching in some spares I have, and nothing. So I drove the last 20 minutes home holding the signal switch towards me, and went to bed cursing my luck. The next morning, bright and early on a Sunday morning, I tore into the dash, with 2 suspected broken switches in mind, and with brand new replacements next to me.

Now I am a novice mechanic, I can do almost any simple task- u joints, driveshafts ect, but this was a major-league pain in the ****. You have to take the whole dash out, and take the instrument cluster out, after taking the steering wheel off, in order to even see the back of the headlight switch. So I changed it, after cursing the Chrysler gods for putting such a simple part in such a stupid location. And on a good hunch, I also changed the signal light switch, at the same time.

Long story short, mopar/jeep/Chrysler uses very craptacular switches, so go aftermarket, unless you want to spend about 4 hours of your quality time changing switches ever year.

Headlights wont come on and bright lights won't stay on hold bright light switch and blower works

I had the same problem. The solution is simple; the ignition switch needs to be replaced. This is an easy do-it-yourself project. Here are instructions:

Check for a switch on ebay, they are about $15. After 10 years they wear out.

Your problem is in te combination switch (the light switch that turns the lights on). Replace it and it should be happy again.
