Car suddenly dies after about 1 hour driving at highway speeds. It sputters a little before dying. After about 5-10 minutes it will start up and drive OK for another hour. Fuel pump and spark wires and plugs have been replaced. Any suggestions?

1994 Lincoln Towncar is idling and running rough. Have changed the plugs and wires recently and no change. Compression is good..93,000 miles on it. New Air idle pump also. Do you have any suggestions? ...

Is the check engine light on ?
Fuel pressure ok ?
If it has a steady miss on one or more cylinders you'll need to figure out which cylinders and what is missing = spark-fuel-compresson.

Wont start has new fuel pump and starter turns over fine going down the road and it spudders like it ran out of gas it just turns over not even trying to start

my 1988 towncar used to stop running on the open road at 70 mph after 20-25 miles of driving.......after sitting on the side for a 1/2 hr it was start right back up like nothing happened. After 2 frustrating weeks and 3 different mechanics I found out through another towncar owner that the ignition coil is getting hot and is causing the engine to shut off...Lo and behold 28.00 and 20 mins solved the problem. Just invest in a good Ignition coil from NAPA or SUMMIT PARTS

2001 Xterra - Replaced fuel pump twice and is still not running.

I am no expert, but I just had a similar problem. The car would shake and buck when accelerating. It finally just died and would not start. After sitting for some time, the car would start and run a while, then do the same thing. I thought fuel pump. The dealer diagnosed distributor. After replacing, the car is running perfect. Something to think about. Good luck.

Fuel pump access

If there is an access, it would be under the back seat, otherwise drop the tank. My friend has my manual for the towncars, and can't say for sure.
