No, its not broken wires, its a pin in the shifter thats out but you need to visit a mechanic unless you know how to open the shifter assembly.

SOURCE: Key will not unlock door

the lock on the driver side could be damaged or some on might have used a jimmy to open that door before how evr you have to open the pannel and remove the lock cylinder part and make sure that the key is working or yo must change the tumbler s in the lock to fit your key (lock smith)

Try rocking vehicle forward & back, while trying to turn key, and wiggle steering hard both ways.

SOURCE: Ignition switch or key problem

hi there this could be either as both can wear out. try spraying some maintenance spray down the side of the key and work it in by turning it a few times. it could just be dry and hence sticking.

SOURCE: 2002 GMC Envoy, i put the key in ignition and

Ignition switch and neutral safety switch. Next time it happens wiggle thekeys in the ignition switch and try to restart. If it starts its probably the ignition switch. Then locate neutral safety switch on brake pedal and put meter on B+ wire from switch to starter relay and see if you get B+ on the would -be- crank. Next locate B+ wire from starter relay to starter hook a meter to it and see if you get B+ on the would -be crank.
Where ever B+ is missing is your problem.

How to remove my Keys from 2003 envoy they are stuck

Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor mounted console gear shifter, it has a ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column as an added safety feature. The ignition lock cylinder control actuators purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a ignition lock cylinder control acutator, and a park position switch that is located in the A/T shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column. GM has had some problems with this , If you have the console shifter there is a micro switch that when put into park a linkage pushes on this micro switch closing the circuit to ignition lock cylinder control actuator allowing you to remove your key ! These linkages fall out causing this problem ,an have electrical wiring problems as well ! I fixed a 2006 Chevy cobalt that had this same problem by getting a used shifter assembly at the auto salvage year ! cost $20.00 . There mite be a access hole under the bottom of the steering column with a release button up inside !

2002 GMC Envoy, key stuck in ignition, car won't start. Can't close sunrooF!

Replace your ignition switch, common problem, especially in 2002. As far as getting your key out:

Look under the switch that you put your key in on the bottom part of the steering column cover....In your year, some have an open hole there in which you can push the solenoid to release your key. Others have an outline of where a hole was going to go, will be very faint. But this can be carefully cut or drilled out to access the solenoid.

My GMC Envoy 2005 has completely locked up on me. No electral devices are working. I have my key stuck in the ignition it will not come all the way back to get key out. I cannot take car out of park. ...

Hey. Your problem look to be a battery concert.
if you are sure of the battery is Ok.
Remove the Battery terminal inspect and clean.
And put back the teminals. Tight a little hard.
because one of the problems on this kind if vehicles are the battery conncetions. That came in misscontact.
After all of this . Check all the fuses Include the MEGA FUSES.
Replace as need. with the same rating.

Check the Red wire going to the fuse block. If is nessesary
Go to the autopart and buy a test light.

OK.... I hope this can be a start prosses to fix your car.

2002 GMC Envoy

If your 2002 gmc envoy or sierra will not even turn over with a kown good battery try starting it in nuetral then go back to park and try starting again. There is a park nuetral safety switch that can malfunction. Turn the key on then shift into nuetral, then turn fully to start.
