Key Does Not Work

I have a 2005 Ford Taurus SE and the key doesn't work now. I put the key in the ignition and try to start it but it doesn't crank. All the lights come on on the dash but it doesn't start. I put my new key in the ignition and start it and the car starts. For me to use the key that doesn't work I have a Remote Starter System so what I do is start it through the Remote and then I put the key in and then I can go. At the time I am using the key that works. Just to let you know I do have a Aftermarket Remote Starter System and the Stock Ford Alarm System. If you need any other information just let me know.

I went out to the car and I put the key that doesn't work in the ignition to the ON position and the theft light flashes. I took that key out and put the one that works in to the ON position and the theft light stays on for a second and then goes out. Could that key have been ''locked out'' of the system.

It could be that chip inside key just went bad. Do u have a 3rd key? That works? If so take the 2 good keys and turn the igntion to run postion for 3 secs each then do the same for the 3rd key and this will reprogram it if the chip is ok. If you do not have 2 good keys then u will have to have a scan tool that will link up with PATS system and perform security access to reprogram it.

If this don't work,The key is dead. Please rate this a fixya. If you just want to add another key.... 1. Insert an existing key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.
3. Remove the existing key and, within 15 seconds, insert the new key and turn it to ON (RUN).
4. The security light will light up for two seconds to indicate success in programming the key into the vehicle.
5. Don't attempt to start the vehicle with any key for at least 1 minute.
.

If you want to initiate a new master key....
1. Insert new key into ignition cylinder and turn it to the ON (RUN) position. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen minutes.
2. When the security light stops flashing, you have FIVE minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition cylinder OFF and then back to the ON (RUN) position. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen more minutes.
3. When the security light stops flashing, you have FIVE minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back ON (RUN) position. The dash will flash for fifteen more minutes.
4. After the security light stops flashing the third time, the new key has been programmed into the vehicles computer and will operate the car. It has replaced ALL the previous electronic key codes and is the ONLY key programmed into the vehicles computer.

Sorry,I posted the method for older vehicles.

Here are the ones for yours

If you want to initiate a new master key....

    1. This requires that the vehicle be connected to special dealer equipment. There are two ten minute delays involved while this device erases all existing key programming and sets up the vehicle computer to accept new key codes. Two new keys should be ready because the system requires a minimum of two keys in the program. After the first two keys are programmed, additional keys can be entered individually by following the instructions for adding duplicate keys (below).

If you want to add a key....

**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**

    1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.

    2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.

    3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.

    4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.

    5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.

    6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5

They have a bad ignition problem. Its more than likely the ignition. Turn the key on, Then right below the ignition theres a hole. take a long skinny phillips screw driver and push it up through the hole and you will hit a release for the ignition. Push it up as you pull the ignition out. Then try to start the car with a flat head screwdriver. Write back if that doesn't work but i have a feeling it will.

Cigarette lighter jack and outlet next to console no longer work. 2005 ford expedition.

Have you tried putting the key into the ignition and turning it to just before the start
position? Some vehicles do not operate the accessory jack with out the key in the
accessory (back) or just before the start position. If it still doesn't work, look for the fuse
marked ACC in the fuse panel. Hope this helps.

this is just a sugestion and in no way meant to answer your problem, but this sounds suspiciously like the the problems that used to occur with the neutral saftey switches on the older taurus.

Key Does not Work.

Ok, If it is the Factory Key, It should have the Plastic Finger grip at the Top. This Finger Grip has a Transponder Chip inside that Tells the Ignition that the Key is the Correct Key for this car, Go ahead and Start. These Transponders do Stop working Sometimes. If you will take the Key to the Dealer they can Reprogram the Key to work for you. But, It has to be the Factory key for this. If you have had a Key made, The key will not have the Chip inside it and will only work on the Doors. Please Rate my Response, I need all the Help That I can Get! Thanks!

2005 ford taurus. Remote entry wont work theft light keeps blinking when key is engaged

HI, I'm reading your problem,
Let me explain something about your car.

2005 Ford Taurus, The key on that car has Chip inside of the key and receiver on the ignition switch,
Check if the key you are trying to use is Black and has a plastic head.
If not you need a key with that characteristics.
But if you have the right key, Remenber if you had drop on the floor, or hit with something,
Because some times they come damaged, with insignificat thins.
Remenber if you left the key close to a magnets like speakers.

If nothing aply at your case, you need to call a place Aloha Smith, they have the computer to program or reprogarm your key. IF not you can't start your car.

OK.. I hope this information work for you.

Thank's for submit yous question on fixya.com
