SOURCE: oil leak--how bad is bad?

hi considering age of car? this oil dripping may be something simple like sump drain plug sealing washer or oil filter seeps? or a seal or gasket leak amongst just a few probabilities? but appreciate oil leaks are not wanted so may i offer this advice ? if you have access to local valeting depot? ask them if they could steam clean your engine and suspension beneath engine? this will not be too expensive and you will/may be able to discover source of leak hopefully? this may not necessarily be a leak of engine oil so check p/steer level too? if you do as suggested above ? and you update on this board as to what y /where leak is from? would be glad to advise further on remedy and if you can diy saving $$$$s in garage costs ? hope this helps and inspires you ? please keep updated ?

SOURCE: 99 sts overheating

Check for coolant flow at the Purge line, this is a common problem on the Northstar.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. Also check for blockage at the nipple on the tank if the purge line is flowing coolant.

Just test drove car with 80,000 miles on it. Seems sluggish to go from a stop. Otherwise, shifts great. A common Volvo thing (never drove one before) or possible transmission issue? Thanks

check the colour of the transmission oil --it should be bright colour and not smell burnt
run the fault codes as it may be engine sensor problems or TCM problems
Unless the timing belt has been changed ,it is 20.000 miles overdue for a belt change ( big money repair)
( volvos s60 --30.l,s80/t63.0l/3.2l, v703.2l, xc60/t63.0l/3.2l,xc70/t63.0l/3.2l, xc90 3.2l) all run timing chains
Have an independent inspector check the vehicle over

How can you determine if your oil leak is coming from your turbo on a 2002 volvo s60

Do you have a external leak or does your engine oil drop but you can not see a leak. My S60 had a leak and it was from the return pipe from the turbo to the sump. You can remove the belly plate and look from the bottom at the back off the engine. You will see the return pipe at the bottom of the turbo. If it does not leak at the there the turbo might be worn and it is blowing the oil into the intake. To check remove the intake hose and check for excess oil in the intake system.

My Volvo s60 2002 model emits a lot of whitish smoke from exhaust, yet the engine runs quite well at normal temperature. It is turbocharged by the way. Whenever i replace battery, say when battery is...

White smoke is usually steam. Check your oil? Milkey color? Yes = blown head gasket or other waaer/oil mix trouble. Dont wait to see what happens.

Thanks for your question.

I just bought an 01 S60 T5 im gonna do her first oil change but idk how many bottles of oil do i need?

Buy 6, but you're only going to use about 5 and a quarter of what you buy. Keep the rest in the trunk in case the engine leaks or burns oil - then you can fill it back up again.

2002 s60 volvo whistles when car is running if i remove the oil cap whistling stops

The PCV valve may be plugged causing normally removed crankcase pressure to be pushed out of the oil cap. Replace the valve.

Hi I have a 2002 Volvo S60 TS, car turns over but does not start.

You should inquire about an extended fuel pump coverage. Volvo has released an extended warranty coverage.
