There should be 10 headbolts. This vehicle uses torque to yield headbolts and should be replaced with the new gasket. Bolts 1-8 get torqued to 40 ft lbs initially, bolts 9 and 10 get torqued to 30 ft lbs initially, Then all bolts get turned an additional 90 degrees. I would strongly suggest borrowing a torque angle gauge for doing this or you might be doing the same repair next week.

If yours is an Xu series engine, you need to use a torque wrench and an angle dial wrench. Tightening is in 3 stages.
  • Stage 1: Tighten up to 60Nm (44 lb/ft) then fully loosen
  • Stage 2: Tighten up to 20Nm (15lb/ft) change to angle dial wrench
  • Stage 3: Angle tighten to 300 deg.
To avoid confusion, do stage 3 in 3 steps, tighten 100 deg each round and repeating the cycle until 3 rounds.

Tighten the bolts in 4 steps as follows:
a. First: all bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).

b. Second: all bolts to 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm).

c. Third: all bolts again to 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm).
d. Fourth: all bolts an additional 1 / 4 turn.

Do not use a torque wrench for the fourth step.

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this).

Tightening head

New Headbolts are recommended

Long bolts are torqued to 46'lbs + 90 degrees.

Short bolts are torqued 43'lbs + 90 degrees.

Start in the center, and work to the edges, torquing the bolts in two stages.

Rockers are torqued to 22'lbs.
