84 Celica ST has been sitting and will not start

Hi all! - My 84 Celica ST (22RE) will not start. It'll turn over all day. Just won't start. It had been sitting for 2+ years, but the original owner said he started it up once a month or so. When I first got it, it had a dead battery. I charged it overnight and tried to start it. It actually ran once - for about 3 seconds. It wasn't noisy at all. Ran fine for that 3 seconds. The battery was really weak after all that charging, so I bought a new one. Now it will only turn over. All my electricals seem to be fine (headlights go up and down, lights, clock and radio, etc is fine) I do not wish to tear this car apart, as it has very low mileage (76K). I am hoping it's something simple! Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! Thank you -Chris

I have the same car with the same issue. turns out the fuel pump went out and had bad connection at power plugs for it also. turn your key to the run position and listen for fuel pump to engage. it will run for about 3 seconds until the pressure is up in the lines. good luck.

Pull out one spark plug and start, check for spark, If there is no spark, check if you have spark on the coil wire going to the cap.

I had similar problem. Turned out to be a gummed up / inoperable fuel pump. I disassembled the pump (not for the faint-hearted, as it is a complex pump. Cleaned and reassembled, it has worked for 2 years, now.

Hello All - I'm hoping someone here can give me a few ideas. My 92 toyota celica st has sit for about 5 days - for the last 3 days the temp outside has been in the single digits. Went to go start today and...

You can try this.
Turn on the key and listen for the fuel pump to prime.
It will sound like a gentle hum. when it stops, turn the key off. wait a few seconds and do it again. Do this three or four times, but don't try to start it. after the third or fourth time you turn it off, try to start it. It may not be priming the fuel injectors fast enough.

Car won't start HELP PLEASE

Hello...

I would start, since it is cold outside by checking to make sure the battery is in good shape. If it is not, it will run but when the cold comes it will eventually not turn over. Note: Turning on the lights to see if they are bright is not a good check for the batteries abilty to crank the car. If you have a Checker or Autozone or other auto parts store see if they can test your battery for you.

With the sudden stop starting I would also suspect possibly the fuel pump or the pump relay.

Good Luck...

Mike
