I'm not finding the ICM on the firewall, Where else might they have it hidden?

What engine does your contour have ? 2.0 or 2.5 L ICM ? ignition control module . It doesn't have one , the PCM - engine computer controls the coils , coil pack ! Go here to check out wiring diagram . http://bbbind.com/free_tsb.html

What energises coil pack

Its not what energizes the coil pack, but what controls it, and that is the ignition control module, or ICM. The power to the coil pack is or should be constant, anytime the key is in on or run. The power may be from the switch or from the engine computer, but it is constant.

The ICM takes this primary circuit current from the coils and controls the coils that way. When a coils primary circuit is cut by the ICM, a spark is delivered out top of the coil. The ICM does this when the computer determines spark is needed and sends a signal to the ICM.

A few other things it could be, too, causing no spark, like the crankshaft sensor, or the pcm, but often it is the ignition control module.

What will cause my 1996 buick century to misfire.

The list is long. Bad spark plug/s, wire/s, distributor cap, camshaft, valve/s, piston/s, gasket/s, vacuum leak, fuel injector/s among other things. Some diagnosis will be needed.

Where is the ignition module. Can I get to it from under the hood? Should I replace the Crank module when I replace the ignition module?

Hi.

The ICM is located under the hood, next to the coil pack and spark plug wires. Here the part: Pontiac Grand Am Ignition Control Module (ICM).

If you ar having distribution problem and misfire check also the crankshaft position sensor. It signal is used to control coils and sparks.

No spark at coil pack changed coil still no spark on 2 and 5

Try switching your coil packs around see if you can get spark out of the 2 & 5 with a different coil pack in that location. If that doesn't work maybe your ICM they can test the ICM at autozone, but can't test the coil packs.

1994 Buick Park Avenue will turn but won't start. They say it's an ICM Code. Can someone other than a mehanic put it in?

Yes. will sit under the coil pack's, that's where the spark plug cable hook to coming from the spark plug's, sit on top if engine, easy to get to, remove all three coil pack, two small screw's to each coil pack, disconnect harness to ICM will have about 26 small wires on the connector, connector will have a small bolt, in center of harness connector, unscrew small bolt and harness will come out, revese to install new ICM.
