Rough start and misfire

My 2004 rx-8 has a really rough time starting, you've gotta hold the ignition for 10 seconds at least, then it starts, you can't give it much gas or it'll either die or not respond to it. engine code said there is a misfire in "cylinder" 2. I took out all four spark plugs, 3 were pretty dark, actually pretty black, and one was filled with gas and looked brand new, like it's not sparking.

I have the same problem. A very rough start and diagnostic shows misfire. When you start it it keeps trying to cut out and engine management light is flashing. Lots of smoke and no power if you try to move it. After a few mins it all calms down and car drives fine. Spark plugs have all been changed but doesn't seen to help

First of all you say you took out the plug you may have to replace the boot on the #2 spark plug and where you said it is fill with gas look at all of you injectors on that side and the fuel rail to make sure nothing is leaking at all use a flashlight when trying to find the leak cause its safer that way.

Is it harmfull to frive my rx 8 when the 1st cylinder is bad?

If the only indication you have is the check engine light and the engine is still strong and smooth, go ahead and drive. If the power is noticeably down and the engine is shaking, better not to.

The codes that indicate specific cylinder misfires are P03xx, where the xx represents the cylinder that it says is misfiring - there will be one code for each accused cylinder. However, misfire codes are some of the most common false codes. All the computer knows is that the crankshaft is averaging slightly lower speed after the cylinder was supposed to fire - if it is slower the cylinder must not be firing regularly, right? Not necessarily.

The first thing you will want to do is to reset the codes if you didn't when you read them. If they come back right away there may be something to them, but if they come back in after a while the computer's teasing you. If the light doesn't come back on right away, try fuel injector cleaner in the tank. If it has been a while since the last tune-up, now is the time. After these steps, reset the codes and see how it does. Because you didn't mention poor performance or rough running I think that will do it.

My car turns over good, acts like it might turn on then continues to turn. I figure it might be fuel filter since low fuel light had come on.Or could it be th fuel pump got hot and is not working properly?

common problem is turning car off with engine not reaching normal operating temp and floods engine. try this. DE-CHOKING PROCEDURE WHEN ENGINE CRANKS BUT DOES NOT START
If the engine does not start, try the following procedure to start the engine using the de-choke mode.
Failure to do so may aggravate the no start condition.
1. Depress and hold the accelerator pedal to the floor and crank the engine for 7-8 seconds. (This will clean out any unburned fuel from the combustion chamber)
2. Release the ignition key to stop cranking.
3. Release the accelerator pedal and start the engine. If the engine starts while performing Step 1 the engine will rev up. Immediately release the ignition key to stop cranking and remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.
^ Do not keep holding the ignition switch in the START position over 10 seconds if the engine does not start. This may result in a weakened or dead battery.
^ Avoid racing the engine or sudden take off right after starting the engine.
^ If the engine still fails to start following the De-choking procedure, have your vehicle inspected by your Mazda Dealer.

for your info there is a recall for this problem. contact mazda.

My 05 rx8 flooded...tired to deflood it couldnt..changed spark plugs my engine light is on ..what could this be?

This happens a lot when the car is started cold and stopped cold, the RX-8 system needs to get to full warth before turning it off which is about 10-15 mins. The easiest way I have found is to push down the gas pedal first which stops the fuel injection, then push down the clutch. Hold them both down and turn it over for about 15 seconds then release the gas pedal with foot still on clutch and try to start, repeat if necessary but also be aware if you do it to much it wears down your battery. I have had this happen twice in my RX-8 and it has worked both times. Hope this helps.

Mazda rx 8. engine rough start and misfire, after 3-7 seconds engine stall. checked all plugs, coil wires, and for any air leaks but discover none. occasionally white amoke from exhaust when i attempt to...

could have water in your oil for the smoke but try to change the plugs first and plug wires for a little tune up and also after that if no changes then you might need to try changing coils or coil pack whichever one your vehicle has

Random multiple misfirings

Here is a list of possible causes. You should not drive the vehicle if the check engine light is flashing all the time, you can cause even more damage. It could pay to have a professional find the real cause.

Spark plugs that are incorrect for the application, cracked, improperly gaped or worn can cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
An IC module that failed to correctly control the ignition coil(s) will cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
Poor connections, broken wiring or wiring that has shorts to ground can cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times. NOTE: Check connectors that might be pulled apart as the engine flexes or wires that short to ground as they pass near brackets or shorts to ground on the exhaust manifold.
Fuel injector(s) that are shorted, plugged or partially restricted can cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
An ignition coil(s) that has low output, corrosion on the coil tower(s), is carbon tracked or arcs to ground will cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
A PCM that failed to properly control the injector or ignition timing will cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
