This is most likely a torque convertor shudder. If it hasn't been doing this for to long you can probably have the tranny cleaned and flushed and put an additive in it to soften the clutch in the lock up torque convertor and cure it. Note it will take about 50-75 miles to clear up after you have tranny flushed. If it has been doing it along time then you may have to have torque convertor replaced.

One more thing. To tell if this is what it is when it is shuddering lay your other foot lightly on the brake pedal and see if it stops. If it does then this is waht it is.

Check fuel filter and fuel pump, also check your fuel regulator. If all those check out fine then check your plugs, and wires. You can also check your compression to make sure nyou are getting proper compression

How can I find what's wrong with my car with out an ecu? I thought I said that like four or five times I'm sorry just tired and frustraited.thanks for ya'lls help.

Hi Lanessia:
One of the most frustrating things about cars now is that they have built in electronic sensors and computers that save information.
Unless we have the technology to access them, we really don't have straightforward ways of finding out what is wrong.
The simple days of not worrying about air pollution are long gone.
As a mechanic, I'm somewhat of a dinosaur.
I really dislike my new vehicles because they all think they are smarter than me. And they are. That's why I keep old vehicles.
The new ones I have to take to a service shop.
The old ones help keep my faith in myself.

Engine is running but no power

Boat loads of things could be wrong so I'll try to list what all to check. Air cleaner, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel injectors, computer faults, TPS, coils or if it's old enough the distributer button, loads of stuff, I could keep going really, but check those things first and see if it's those but if not than let me know @ glass.marshall1@gmail.com

My '89 Buick Electra starts and shift but will not

Do you mean when you put it in drive the car does nothing, if that is what you mean to say then you only have one thing wrong that causes this, the transmission has failed (this assumes the fluid is not really low)

It is running to warm, and I have been told so many different things are the problem, but no one wants to put their mouth with truth and fix it. I think that these people are just talking to make it sound...

Your right. The problem with the 97-2004 Yukons is the radiators and the collant systems, and no one really knows what is wrong with them. I have had my 99 Yukon for 7 years and I love her. I spent a ton of money to find out that the only thing I can really do, is make sure the coolant is kept topped up. Coolant is cheap and I only have to top it up every few months, but it seems to have solved the the over heating issue for me. You can replace the rad if you want but it only seems to change things for a few months at best. I went through 4 before I gave up.

What would be wrong if my service engine light is on along with the trac light and brake light? All on together

they just go to let you know that you need to take your car and get it serviced theire is really no way of knowing straight out the bat what's wrong with the the lights and how they came on without having them check out it can be a very small thing or it can be something serious it really depends on what you have but I suggest that you get it checked out before more damage happens

1999 Firebird runs rough and bucks

Sounds like an O2 sensor at this point (which Firebirds are notorious for) however since you really didnt give us alot more detail than hard to stay running, it could really be several things. I really would eliminate all the multiple guessing and take it to a shop and have a dignostic run on it, it's worth the money to have them tell you in 15 minutes what is wrong verus shelling out money for parts that may not need replacing.

1999 New Beetle. PLEASE HELP! SHAKES REALLY BAD!

A shake with the engine running (known in the vernacular as a "shimmy") can be caused by several things. In this case, since it's at idle, I'd wager either a.) timing went off, which in an EC (electronic control) vehicle means you should be asking "why me?" or b.) could be a miss. Chances are, whatever the problem, that check engine code that got tripped will tell you what happened. It might be a simple thing like a sensor malfunctioned and now is telling the engine to fire wrong, dwell wrong, too much gas...etc, or it might be something went seriously wrong (broken engine mount, bad distributor...etc). Either way, get that code read and you should be able to get back on the road.
