Question about 1992 Subaru Loyale

Heat dial only works when "pushed" toward dash.

Hi...I have a '93 loyale. The 4-position fan dial recently quit in all positions, but will work if I push it toward the dash. When I let go, the fan stops. Is this a simple matter of yanking off the knob and replacing the switch? Many thanks.

Sounds like your brushes in the heater blower (remove molding panel BELOW glove box) 3 screws and a connector. If you have the original siemans motor still the brushes are at Ace Hardware use the EC type compound the are the OEM type
637 or 367 ?? which ever has SIDE wire NOT back wire. This motor brush assembly is separate so no problem putting back on THEN cover cap easy job 30 mins (on the loyale 93 you DON'T have to remove the glove box)

How to trouble shoot heat/ a/c fan switch.

Will your blower fan kick on in the medium position by chance? Med/ med high..if it is a 4 position switch, does it operate in the number 3 position? If so it is probably your blower motor resistor. If not, I would test the blower motor itself. Since the compressor kicks on when you turn the fan on, I would think the switch is working.

The fan will not come on in the first 4 positions,

It may be the fan motor reostat. It's located under the dash on the passenger side on the duct work. It kinda works like a dimmer switch.

Heat/ac fan doesn't work

go to the ac fan resistor first - then check the fan itself (put 12 v), remove climate control and check plug for shortage-melted wires

The blower fan only works in position 5.

Replace the fan resistor in the heat/ac box, passenger side, under the dash, should be a plug with several wires on it. After you pull the plug off there will be a couple of screws that hold the resistor in, take it with you to the parts store, or dealer. to make sure they give you the right one, because electrical parts are not returnable.

Blower only works on 4,123 not working.

Hi There;
You say your heater fan only works on high.

This issue can be repaired by replacing what is called the "blower motor resistor". The electrical current flows through this unit in all positions except #4.
If you look under the dash on the passenger side with the heater fan on #4 you will hear the blower motor running. Just slightly toward the drivers side of the blower motor & closer to the firewall you will see a four wire connector. this is attached to the "blower motor resistor". If you get a replacement one & examine it you will see two screw holes where you will need to remove the 9/32nds screws from the one in your truck to remove the fauly one & install your new on. This part is relitivly inexpensive & it is not worth trying to locate a used one.
Please let me know if you need more info on this

Subaru Loyale 1994 Heating fan quit working

one of two solutions:

The contacts on your fan switch are bad, or you striped the knob and it won't turn the switch on, or the big bad one...your fan motor has decided it needs a vacation.

Hope this helps you, and I hope it's just the knob is's the lesor of two evils
