Question about 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic

1 Answer

Check Engine light comes on for unknown reason.

The check engine light comes on, but why, I don't know. All of the fluid levels are ok and the car seems to drive just fine. Could you suggest a problem area? Of if possible, is there a web site that lists the diagnostic codes for the car? Thank you

You can take your car to auto zone or advanced auto or some other car parts store where they will put it on a computer for nothing to tell you the problem. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate my answer.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE COMPUTER DETECTS A PROBLEM. YOU NEED TO HAVE THE CODES READ. THAT GIVES YOU A GOOD PLACE TO START.

Check engine light

Check levels if fine and not over heating clear the engine light sometimes changes in level will trigger it. If light comes on again after adding fluid. Then you know its something further but unlikely if it hasn't been over heating. If your losing fluid you might want to check around pump to make sure gasket seal is still good or check and make sure plastic turn opening valve on bottom of radiator isn't loose.

Engine warning lights comes on

Your not correct, there is a reason

Any dash light that stays on or comes
on after the motor is started, is an indication
you have a problem

No check light or warning light will go out until
you diagnose the reason it is on & correct the
problem

Check engine stay all the time 2005 mercury mariner

Hello,

There is a lot of things that cause a engine lite to stay on.

Here is just a few things, that will have engine light stay on:

Service is due, some cars have that automatically do this when time for regular service.

Breaks, Some cars have a sensor that after a certain range on your pads, it triggers the service Light.

Oil Low, or water/antifreeze low.

Emission problem, Like fuel filter needs replacing or possible 02 sensor not working ( part of your Cadillac converter)

Battery not fulling charging, or alternator not putting out proper amps. etc,,

This list can go on and on, most the time if you have low oil, or break issue, there is separate warning lights for that.

Here is what I think, sometimes when you have something wrong with your car, if you checked your oil level, water/antifreeze level, breaks seem good, and all your other fluids are good, and your car is running good and as normal, what best to do, is take it in and have them put it on there computer, this will tell you if there is something your over looking, by normally a code that comes up on there system. Sometimes the code will come up on there computer and not on your dash warning lights. Auto Zone, normally can do this for free with there hand held computer and tell you what comes up and what to check out. And all Garages if everything is ok, can with computer turn your engine light off if everything is ok. But for sure get it checked, and don't just assume it is a faulty engine light coming on, most the time there is a reason. Thanks Mike

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, and all fluid is ok, check oil, trns ok

Any check engine light for a car of this year or newer is sent through the car's main computer. If you go to Advanced Auto or any other like auto store, they will be able to hook your car up to a machine which will tell you exactly what is wrong. They will also be able to offer advice on how to repair.

2006 Subaru Outback: all of a sudden, the cruis control kicked off, I had a ''check engine'' light, flashing ''sport'' light and flashing cruise light?? When I arrived home, I checked under the hood...oil...

Hello, whenever the check engine light comes on the cruse light will flash as well, that is normal. The check engine light will not come on if fluid levels are low or if the temp is getting to high, I am pleased to know that you checked all of the fluids, most wouldn't have even the slightest thought to even try checking them. The On Board Diagnostics or OBD-2 for short only sets a check engine light when the ECM or Electronic Control Module reads a sensor value either too high or too low, but it has to read that same fault 3 consecutive times in a row to turn on the check engine light (w/ flashing cruise). Otherwise your check engine light would be going on and off all the time. I would go to your local parts store and have them check the codes for free because a dealer will have to charge you labor for them to check due to the knowledge needed to use the highly sophisticated scan tool they use. That way you can go either to an independent shop or a dealer with what the other scanner says is wrong which cuts down on the cost of repairs. They will probably ask you if you fueled up just before the engine light came on, in which that would be code P0440:EVAP leak(very small leak), that means the fuel tank sensor doesn't like how you put the fuel cap on. Subaru recommends AT LEAST 3 clicks when tightening your fuel cap. But until that code is checked you won't know whats wrong, if nothing went boom or bang you'll probably be ok. If it does end up being a fuel cap leak, then just loosen the cap put it back on and just make 1 full revolution, and just keep driving it. The light will go off within 3 full warm up cool down cycles or (drive cycles). I hope this info helps...(subyguru)...

Engine light (114k miles)

check the following, brake fluid level, power steering level.radiator level, and oil level.also check out any rubber pipes for splitting around the connections as this will cause the engine light to come on as well.

Check engine light

The light will come on for a variety of reasons. There are dozens of sensors and controls that are all connected to the computer module. When any one of these reports values to the computer that are out of spec, the light will illuminate. This is not always a bad thing. The computer will store trouble codes related to the reason the light illuminated. A technician can "read" the codes and tell you exactly what the problem is and what it will take to fix it.
