There is a silver rod on the back of the passenger door mirror that is supposed to fit into a hinge on the door. The hinge has become stretched out or loose and thus the rod (and mirror) do not stay in place. When I took it to the dealer they told me they would have to replace the entire mirror and hinge for $500. This seems crazy. The mirror is wired so that it can be controlled from the inside so this is why they claimed it would cost so much. I dont care about the wiring, I just need a mirror that stays in place. Any ideas? I have tried super glue but that doesn't hold up. I want a permanent solution.
These mirrors are bolted on from the inside. On the door trim, there is a triangle piece of trim that aligns with the mirror. It is seperate from the door trim. If you remove that, you will see three bolts that hold the mirror on. If yours is a 'cable' controlled mirror, the new one would have to have the cable run to where the control switch is: however, if you don't care if it is remote controlled, buy an electric one from Ebay or a junk yard and install it. Once you set the mirror, it will stay and you won't have to run any cables or wires.
