This sounds more like a transmission issue than the rear differential. It's possible that you have a damaged or mis-adjusted shift linkage or possibly a bad shift solenoid. Transmission fluid might be low, but I'm guessing you already checked the fluid with then engine warmed up and running. When it does run, does it vibrate? This could be an indicator that you have a bad seal in your torque converter and are losing fluid from it.

Well the jerking sensation might seem to be coming from the rear axle, but it's possible it's actually coming from the drive shaft. A worn U-Joint can causing one heck of a slamming jerking sensation. With the age of the vehicle it's highly likely you've got more than one thing wrong in the drive train, and I'd actually be surprised if you don't have worn u-joints by now.

A combination effect. Also, if it has been shifting hard for some time, and the U-joints are dry (which by now at the vehicle's age they ought to be), the repeated hard shifting will have caused the u-joint needle bearings to just about disintegrate.

The rear differential causing you to go into drive and not reverse is definitely not the problem.

Chevy impala 2008 rear windows won't roll down all

Most cars these days have this designed into the window system. Its a safety issue and I'm afraid there may nothing you can do. If there is more window track below the bottom of the glass, look for stops bolted or rivited in the track. If so, you may be able to move them down. However, this is dependent upon the drive mechanism, which may also limit window travel.

1995 chevy impala ss won't go in reverse

This is usually a pressure problem. Reverse takes more pressure than any other gear. Either worn, old o-rings or front pump.
