Make sure the rad fan or fans clutch fans.  Are not running when the engine Is to reach normal temps. Fans on 24/7 will have there bearings shot quick and when the bearings are gone you will know because your Rover will sound like a 747 spinning that ceased up fan. still leave it and the fan will develop a wobble your fan blades will get caught on the housing breaking off all blades sending them though every coolant line you have and Into the rad.  Its THOUSANDS!! You could be stuck replacing every coolant line Including high pressure aluminum lines. RAD. Whole fan assembly ohh yea and you will want a new hood cause you will get atleast one fan blade that shoots up and renders your hood trash aswell.
Keep an eye on your fans always!

Make sure Its got the 4.0 jaguar motor. K not a factor

Check front wheel bearings for dripping oil on inside of front tires.

Check front suspension by pushing down on the hood at the tires
Hop on back of rover bumper and jump to check rear suspension
Check the Headlight harness for front headlamps

Examine the floor at each door opening for rot.

Examine Back door wheelwels inside aswell as all outside
Examine all window seals and inside rubber door seals
Try power windows and locks make sure they all work
Check to make Sure ABS wires are all connected
    Check interior digital clock
Under the hood look for fresh oil anywhere but focus on the Intake manifold gasket. Examine all rubber hoses make sure you know which are bad and replace. Examine front fog lights.
Examine Transfer-case. No doubt ceased when you try to use diff- lock but use grease and BRUTE FORCE. It will most likely be fine. On test drive check dash warning lights "service engine" is nothing. Get the Rover to the middle on the heat gauge make sure it don't go any hotter. Drive up and down hills and watch the automatic gearbox changes. Ridiculous amounts Is a no no.
Check the exhaust system muffler ect. Air flow IS HUGE!
Check to see If Disc Changer Is under front seat.
When Windows are going up and down listen for any banging noises. Make sure Radio antenna works. Examine Dasboard for lifting and cracking. Examine Terminals connecting to battery under the hood. On test drive listen for relay clicking.

pffffffft: There are a few things to look out for. Most of the work Is reasoably easy to fix yourself with the proper knowledge. I'v been In love with the Motor since the day we met and she Is super super sweet and tough enough to last a zillion miles even with well mine has 245m now, still runs like new. If the motor has problems then guarentee the whole truck is bad. RUN! Get a Disco with smooth running gearbox and motor with few of the minor problems listed above and you will be in love forever. Quick buy without looking and Its your worst nightmare and curse Land Rover until the end of your days.

    Good luck

HOW TO BLEED FUEL LINE ON LANDROVER

on most Discovery's the fuel rail will have a schrader type valve (usually on the right side of rail -US pass side). let the car sit a while before you do this and have some rags to collect any fuel that shoots out. (wear protective eyewear, and dont stand directly in line wiht this as it can shoot a distance). press the valve (like a tire valve) slowly, and fuel will squirt out until the pressure is equalized. in some cases, wiht weaker pressure regulators, you may not get much out at all. thx

Timing belt/chain

This engine has a timing belt.Once you have removed the engine front cover , turn the engine to the marks as shown in the diagram.Lock the crankshaft in this position with an old reverse light switch from the gearbox by inserting it into the hole under the bell housing (manual transmission). Before removing the belt , loosen 3 bolts on the injector pump after you locked this with a 8.5 mm drill bit.Replace the belt and pull the tensioner to 16 Nm.If you are fitting a whole pulley replacement kit take note of the upgraded spacers and their position.e60a21d.jpgDont forget to tighten the injector pump bolts again after you tensioned the belt and recheck your timing marks.
