ROD Bearings DO NOT "TICK" They KNOCK Loud believe Me You Would Know it if it Was A ROD Knocking. I would Advise you Check your OIL Pressure Manualy as the Oil Pump Can Contribute to the Problem you Are Describing

Lifters on top. Rod bearings on bottom. Lifters are normal. they should come out of tapping. Bearings only get worse.

Can lifters be replaced

Oh yea, lifters can be replaced , best if you replace cam an lifters together ! Loud knocking is not usually associated with lifters , they usually make a ticking noise ! Knocking noise is most usually in the bottom of the motor , main or rod bearings . most of the time rod bearings !

Loud ticking noise when first staring, engine stalls sometimes when starting it unless I hold the gas pedal down

The TPS would be what I would do had that problem once myself solved the problem. as for the ticking noise sounds like a lifter is bleeding down as long as the noise goes away you will be ok. But may I suggest that if you are going to keep the vehicle for awhile longer you might want to have a set of lifters put in it.

Pound ticking noise when my 99 durango starts goes away after the engine warms up

The ticking noise could be a faulty hydrulic valve lifter. When last was the oil & filter changed, it coul be that the oil is thick and not going through to the lifters and when it warms up the oil is thin. It could be that the engine is need of an overhaul as 148.000 miles is 238.182 Kilometers and that is a hi milage.

Iv got a 99 dakota with a 3.9 when its cold iv got great oil pressure but if i rev it up it bottoms out or if i let it start to warm up it makes a noise like runing a spoon over a wash board an slowly...

Sounds like worn main/ rod bearings. Too much clearance between bearings and crank shaft will make the oil pressure run low. If you have hydralic lifters, they too need good oil pressure to stay pumped up to keep the push rods against the rocker assembly. You may get lucky and have a bad oil pump.

Have a mechanic look at your front end. Find out what it is then fix it. could be ball joints, tie rods, rotors or a number of other things.Did your bearings go bad before this new set? could they have ruined the spindal or the hub?

solid lifters? i could be wrong but i think they are hydraulic lifters. ive had quite a few of them not pump up when re-installing the valvetrain and cause a tick. pull off the valvetrain and check to see if all the lifters/tappets are firm with no squish. that might be your problem
