Question about 1999 Mazda Millenia

Idles so rough the car shakes when in drive

I have a 1995 Mazda Millenia S. I have had some problems accelerating previously, but they had cleared up. I was coming off the freeway and my check engine light was flashing. I stopped at a light and my whole car was shaking, and sounding like it wanted to die. I have had the fuel filter replaced, a couple of the sensors replaced, an oil change, new spark plugs and a hose replaced. Can't figure out what the problem is. My acceleration problems cleared after I used some additives to my gasoline a few times. The car was good for a few months but I had noticed it was acting a little sluggish again during acceleration at times. I also had my dust shield rip during a period when we had some rather deep snow. Don't know if something else was damaged that might be the problem?

Yes the check engine light still flashes, and I did suggest to my son-in-law who is working on the car that maybe it might be water in the fuel. I have also thought about going to Autozone to put it on the computer, and that is something we might do tomorrow if we can. I am going to suggest to him that he check the coil pack and injectors, the coil pack is new, the injectors I had suggested before. He's really good at fixing most things but he's been pressed for time so perhaps your suggestions will lead us in the right direction. Thanks! If you think of anything else let me know.

Check engine light flashing usually means a misfire. i would have to to run a diagnostic check first. i would recommend getting it put on the computer at autozone (cause it's free) but i don't know for sure if they can run that year model. i know they run 96 and up. but you need to find out what cylinder is misfiring and i can almost bet you its a coil pack or injector. if autozone can't do it you'll have to call around to your local mechanic shops and find out who charges less to put it on a computer, usually $75 or more. i have one i would only charge you $50 but that doesn't do you any good lol.get back with me and let me know what you fid out.

you can probably rule out water in the fuel depending on how may tanks of gas you've ran through it but it doesn't take much to make it run rough. usually it will spit and sputter and won't hardly want to go at all. if you've ran 3 or 4 tanks of gas through it it's probably okay. if not put about a half of cup of rubbing alcohol in the tank to a full tank of gas and it will clear up.

Mazda millenia 2000 2.3L S, is shaking while accelerating and very bedly shaking after rain

Could be weak spark plug wires or cap and coil. Electricity will jump to ground instead of thru the spark plugs if the wires are wet.

Have you tried filling at the motor, header tank or radiator. You may need a new cap or you could have grass or something block the airflow at the front of the radiator, possible head gasket, does it run rough when first started then clear up?

Had a question bout my mazda rx8 I was driving it one night it was running fine the next day went out and it won't turn over it takes awhile bit it finally starts and idles real rough and you give it...

Too many possibilities

Won't turn over is one problem -battery,cables,grounds,
starter,solenoid,etc

Idles rough-- vacuum leaks, spark plugs never replaced,
egr valve etc

Worn O2 Sensors
Dirty MAF Sensor
Old Fuel Filter

You have to go into a lot of technical detail & history
on your vehicle, for us to even guess.

95 aurora idles rough; runs somewhat smoother as it warms up; yet it backfires if I attempt to accelerate entering expressways. it drives smooth if not accelerating.

We had a similar problem. There was a crack in the air intake plenum gasket. Spraying carb cleaner around it can tell if that's the problem. It will clear up for a few seconds if it is. Not too bad to replace.

It doesnt get enough gas while it idles. could this be a fuel filter problem?

If the car runs well up hills and accelerates up to speed, then it is getting enough fuel(I don't think it is the filter but it won't cost much to replace it anyway). Poor idle is usually a carburetor problem or from retarded timing and vacuum lines being off or cracked.

When I start my car there is gas smell and it has poor acceleration. The acceleration gets better as the car warms up... The car also idles rough.I recently had an oil change I also changed the spark plugs...

the gas smell makes me think EGRS (Exhaust Gas Recirculation System) check all your Vacuum hoses, start at your charcoal canister and work backwards.

A vacuum problem explains your conditions at least...

Mazda millenia problems

here are a few problems to look out for:

Check-engine light: Check engine light comes on due to carbon buildup on the exhaust valves of 2.5L engine. (1995-02)

Engine noise: Some engines make a metallic tapping noise requiring a new friction-gear spring on the camshaft. (1995)

Headlights: The headlight drain hoses can get kinked by the aiming screws causing fogging. (1995-96)

Keys: It may be hard to turn the ignition key because the steering shaft is not positioned correctly. (1995)

Steering problems: The steering wheel may be off center requiring adjustment of the tie rods. (1995). You can also have a look at the following website where some owner have given their opinions on owning one. http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/mazda/millenia/r68654/comments/
