Lack of power going up (or in) a hill could indicate you have a head gasket leak, or your trans has an issue w/downshifting. more clarification would help. how often does this problem occur? any noises associated with uphill driving? check trans fluid level and condition/color. check oil for the same. another suggestion is performing a compression test and compare your results with a repair manual specific to your ride haynes and chiltons are both good reference repair guides written for the non professional mechanic

2003 honda civic lx will start but no power trying to drive down driveway and antitheft light is on

that's a good one,
is engine RPM above or below, 2000 RPM in the A/T Drive selected
if cant get there, weak engine
if goes way highter, that is transmission slip.

the RPM is key
in the FSM see page on A/T for transmission stall test
it takes 1min, to setup, pass or fail (test is 15sec. max , never more. )

I have a 1995 Honda Civic. When driving up hills

Check spark plugs and all related cables, fuel hoses, fuel filter (change if black but make sure lines and fuel tank are clean first), and air filter. If blank spots are experienced when power is lost completely then firing of spark plugs may be the issue. Possibly also related to insufficient fuel reaching combustion chamber. Available for more consulation after you do through the above recommended basic checks.

I assume you mean low idle speed 500 rpm. Genarally a tapping noise comes from the valve train, and a knocking noise comes from the crankshaft connecting rods. The way that a mechanic will narrow it down is to use a mechanics stethoscope. You can get one pretty cheaply at an auto parts store. Put the metal end of the scope on a part of the engine and listen for noise. On the other hand, if your car is idling at 5000 rpm, it would also be making ALOT of noise.

Worn rings and/or valve guides - time for a re-build.
