The battery drops dead every morning.

I have a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra SL 4dr. VIN# 2G3AM5IN8K2405346. I tried new battery and new alternator and it stills dies everday. I had the starter checked and it checked out o.k.

I have the same problem. I'm not about to go out and spend $1000 of dollars on a car i spent $500 on. I took all the bulbs out and unplug the one under the hood and it still dying on me. I was told it could be the sensor which is a two dollar piece (so I'm told), but not sure if that's the problem either. Which means i have to go take it in for $90 to check to see what the problem is...and if it is the $2 piece that is really going to upset me. The only thing is i don't know what kind of sensor i should be looking for.

Maybe the new alternator is not working properly. It should be putting out between 14--15volts. Find someone with a meter to check it at about 1500rmp.

It may not be your problem, but you could at least eliminate it. Try checking you trunk light and hood light and make sure they cut off when you close them (if equipped). If not, then you wouldn't see them not shut off, and they'd sit there and drain your battery all night.

It could be other things, but I have definately seen this happen before and you should eliminate it first because:
1. It's easy.
2. It's free.

Have a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra SL 4dr. VIN# 2G3AM5IN8K240

have you checked the glove box light? another way to tell where your short may be is to hook a voltage meter to the battery and notice a drain on the battery with the key off! then start pulling fuses to see when the drain stops and that will narrow down the possibilities of the problem... the drain should be easily located if its killing the battery overnight... help this helps

Automatic locks are draining battery, 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sup

Pull fuse to locks and see if that solves the problem first, does the battery drain over night, could be a bad voltage regulator in alternator.

first of all you open the hood and you can see the upper radiator hose follow that to the engine block for safety this is something you want to do when the car is cool after you follow the hose remove the screws there should be only 2 one on each side of hose and take it off the thermastat should be inside and make sure you put the new one in back the same way you took the old one out

Car won't start, i hear a click but the engine won't turn over

It's more likely to be the starter than the alternator but first i would make sure the new battery is fully charged.
