Check the distributor cap if it was not included in coil pack.
Also check the fuel filter replace), injectors (cleaner) and fuel pump.

2004 Jetta 1.8T started idling rough at low rpm, OBD says random misfire....

spark plugs? either current ones are bad, or maybe you replaced recently with incorrect ones (most autoparts stores don't have the right plugs for 1.8T...need to go to dealer or ecstuning.com)
-or-
coil packs?
the OBD scan should tell you what cylinder is misfiring. try swapping the coil packs around and see if the misfire moves. if it does, then replace the bad coil pack (might just want to do all 4). if not, trying swapping the plugs around...same idea.

Volkswagen 2000 jetta 2.8 VR6 the problem is in Spark Plug Wires

Very common fault relates to poor connection on the 4 pin plug

There is a repair kit available which has a new modified connector and about 5" of loom to repair this fault

It is advise to change any offending coil at the same time as the loose wires have usually damaged it.

I was told by the dealership i needed to replace the ignition coil and spark plug wires because my 99 jetta vr6 was misfiring. I did that and now it wont start.

You must verify your work.

1. Test for spark. Make sure the coil is producing spark.
2. Did you remove the plug wires one at a time? If not then check to make sure the firing order is correct.

My 2ooo jetta is running a little rough. could it

Yes, it could be the wires, especially if this started after the plugs were replaced. The wires could have broke inside after pulling them off the plugs. There shouldn't be a distributor cap, there should be a coil pack on each spark plug, and I think that one of them is your culprit.

You may need to change the coil pack(s) or modular. The modular is what the coil pack(s) mount to. I'm not familiar with that engine so you may have a 3 piece coil pack, or a 1 piece. (If it doesn't have a distributor). You may first try replacing the coil wire. There is a good chance that is loose, or bad. It could also be the coil itself. Try the coil wire and if it still acts up, then try the others. Also, when you changed the plugs, did you put new plug wires? When I do a tune up on my vehicles, I change the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, (coil pack, modular), whichever is equipped, oil, oil filter, tranny fluid and filter with gasket, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket oil filter, and fuel filter. Try changing the fuel filter as well, as plugged or dirty fuel filters can cause stall outs. I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing fixya.com for answers.

You may have a bad coil pack - try moving two of them around and see if the misfire follows the coil pack or stays at the same cylinder. If it follows the coil pack, get a new one. If it stays in the same cylinder, inspect your spark plug wires and make sure the plug is gapped correctly.
