2002 camry XLE steering wheel mounted switch assembly removal

On my 2002 camry XLE the there are 2 switches on the steering wheel beside the airbag at the 9:00 oclock position. One switch is broken. I want to fix/replace the switch, but can't find a way to get the little cover off of the back of the unit. Presumably it is a snap-on cover, behind which there would be a way to remove the switch assembly.I don't want to force the cover and break it. Is there some trick to removing this cover and subsequently the switch assembly? How do I get them off.

This is a known failure item. Take it to a dealer & have them replace it under warranty. I personally have changed 20 or so. The replacement boxes seem to have been upgraded, and do not display this issue any longer.

SOURCE: 2004 camry xle going over bumps in road sounds

You really haven't given us a huge lot to go on there, but I would start by looking at the shock absorber mountings in the trunk. It's possible that the rubber mounts are loose or worn and the shocks are rattling in their mounts as you go over bumps.

There is a spring and a plastic clip behind the steering wheel pad/airbag. The plastic clip broke. Unplug the airbag or disconnect the battery before playing with the airbag. They can be nasty.

I need to remove the air bag on a 2002 buick regal. i can't see how to unclip or unbolt the air bag. any suggestions

I believe that there are 2, 3, or 4 screws holding the bag assembly to the steering wheel. You can remove the screws from the back of the steering wheel. Be careful handling the airbag. Be sure to disconnect the battery completely, take the battery out of the car.

4. Reverse procedure to install.
AIRBAG REMOVAL
1. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable from battery.

2. From the underside of the steering wheel, remove the two screws that secure the driver airbag to the steering wheel armature.
CAUTION: The horn switch and the clockspring pigtails connected to the back of the airbag module are fragile. Do not pull on these wires to disengage them. These must be handled carefully to prevent damage to the horn switch and/or the clockspring assembly.
3. Pull the driver airbag away from the steering wheel enough to access the three electrical connections on the back of the airbag housing.

4. Disconnect the steering wheel wire harness connector for the horn switch from the horn switch feed pigtail wire connector, which is located on the back of the driver airbag housing.

5. The clockspring driver airbag pigtail wire connectors are secured by integral latches to the airbag inflator connector receptacles, which are located on the back of the driver airbag housing. Depress the latches on each side of the connector insulator and pull the insulators straight out from the airbag inflator to disconnect them from the receptacles.

6. Remove the driver airbag from the steering wheel.

7. Reverse procedure to install.

The airbag indicator lights up when the car is on.

When the airbag light (SRS) is on or blinks it means a fault has occurred in the system and the airbag diagnostic monitor has disabled the system, the most common problem that turns the light on is a break in the connection to the steering wheel mounted airbag, this is due to a rotating ribbon contact that breaks under the steering wheel that connects the airbag to the wiring harness and the diagnostic monitor, the part is called the clock spring contact, a coiled up ribbon electrical contact that turns with the steering wheel while maintaining a mechanical connection to the airgag mounted on the steering wheel, to replace this part you must disarm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel, this requires a special steering wheel puller tool and that you disarm the airbag system before you start the work, to do this disconnect the battery negative cable for 1/2 hour prior.

Where's turn signal switch? on c280 1994 mercedes

The switch is the stalk assembly on steering column. The hazard switch is the relay(FLASHER). To replace switch r&r LF under dash and unplug 2 connectors at base of steering column(electrical). You will need a long t20 socket to remove airbag and then a 10mm allen to remove steering wheel. There are a series of screws to remove the c.c. switch steering airbag contact and blinker switch. I would recommend replacing the hazard switch first unless you are certain that the blinker switch is bad.

Key switch remove

1.so that you won't accidentally trip the airbag, turn the ignition switch on. (the air bag light will be on. that is normal) Turn the steering wheel so that the wheels are pointing straight ahead.

.2.Turn the key to the lock position and remove the key. then remove the negative cable from the battery. Remove the air bag fuse from the fuse box. 3. Remove the inflator module and steering wheel. 4. Remove the steering column covers both upper and lower. you will probably need a hex screwdriver or hex wrench. 5. Disconnect and remove the headlight switch. 6. Disconect the wiring harnes from the ignition assembly. 7. remove the 2 switch mounting screws and remove the switch assembly. 8. Replace the exact same way in the reverse mode after replacing the switch.
