Re: air bag lite wont turn off in 1999 explorer sport
The light is blinking a fault code at u, but here is the most common cause of the airbag light staying on, it is caused by a break in the flat ribbon rotating contact under the steering wheel, this contact assembly is called the clock-spring contact, u must dis-arm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel to replace it.

if the bulbs on outside are ok, and it will not flash on dash and stays completely lite up. replace the turn signal flasher. Look under the steering column and locate the fuse box. The fuse box is under
the plastic kick panel. Under the panel is a yellow case that holds the turn
signal relay. Test that this is the relay by turning it on and placing a finger on the
relay. You should be able to feel the relay clicking. Pull the relay from the
socket and plug a new one back in. Reattach the kick panel and start the
Explorer. good-day !
You need to have the system scanned. When the light is on there is something wrong with the air bag system. The air bag will not deploy when the system has a fault. This is something that is dangerous to drive that way because the vehicle is designed for that to go of in a crash, not to have you hit the air bag. If you have the codes retrieved as part of an estimate and post them I will tell you what to do to get the system back on line.
A solid air bag light indicates the air bag computer detects a fault in the air bag system. If the light is on the air bags won't deploy in the event of an accident. The computer will have to be scanned to determine what the problem is.
Since my last post, I found a bright yellow connector under the drivers seat. I took the connector off of the end, bent it a little, and put it back on. My air bag light has stayed off. I am going to put some electrical grease on it and see what happens.
