"Overdrive Off" light on dash keeps blinking

O/D Light in dash starts to blink about 2-5 miles into new trip. Transmission seems to be shifting OK despite the light blinking.
Tried pressing the O/D Button, doesn't stop the blinking of the light in dash. Checked the transmission fluid, its OK.

Not sure what to look at next...?

OMG... this is the exact problem that just started happening to me... i tried and tried to push that button but wont go off til i turn the car off and then i can drive 5 miles down the road and it pops back on. Husband only drove it about 2 miles and said he didnt notice anything... I thought i was going crazy. I havent been driving it, is it safe to drive til i can get it in????

i sure hope this is the problem because i am stressing about having to buy a transmission...Just lost my job and now this..whewww...

Ditto on the blinking OD light after driving for 10-15 minutes. At times the transmission will kick in & out of OD; but overall it will not shift into OD when blinking. The dealer claims the problem is a connection in the steering column but not sure; I don't want them to trouble shoot with my money. When the temperature is below freezing it seems to work fine; which makes me believe it's a sensor/relay outside of the cabin.

Did they rebuild the transmission to access the sensor? Or was it external? If it was external do you have a part number?

My 95 Cummins Dodge had the same problem and adding "Lucas Transmissiion Fix" cured it completely and permanently.

Thier claim is as follows:

Lucas Transmission Fix is a non-solvent formulas that stops slip, hesitation and rough shifting in worn transmissions and completely eliminates most seal leaks. Use in any transmission for preventative maintenance.Use also in light duty manual transmissions to increase shifting ease and transmission life.
Key Benefits

The Transmission shifts very hard after the first shift. Check engine light is on as well as the Green overdrive light blinks off and on. Speed sensor was cleaned and even replaced.

Your on the right track. Have you scanned the PCM, what codes did you get? If not and you changed the vehicle speed sensor,(VSS) did you check the (OSS) output shaft speed sensor, it will cause torque converter lock up and hard shifting and that pesky OD light flashing. I have also found that clutch packs inside auto tranny's dry out. Ford and some aftermarket companies sell a fluid that will recondition the clutch packs.

Usually it means the speed sensor in the transmission is failing.
The blinking light means your overdrive may not work.

You need to have the transmission scanned for fault codes, the light blblinks only when the transmission control module detects a fault, in this model it is usually the result of the computer seeing excessive slippage, you may not fell it but sooner or later it may fail completely. Before deciding whether the ****** is defective have the system scanned by a ****** repair shop for the blinking light.

Blinking overdrive light , not shifting

Have the vehicle scanned. The overdrive light is like the check engine light for the transmission. There are transmission codes in the ecm if the overdrive light is blinking.

The blinking overdrive button is telling u that a serious fault has occurred in the electronic controls or a mechanical fault such as excess slippage is occurring.
