Question about 2000 Chevrolet Camaro

2000 Camero z28 not turning over

I have a 2000 Camero z28 convertible that just doesn't want to start. The battery went out about a week ago, I tried to jump it without any luck, so I left it tell I got around to getting it changed. I changed it today and it doesn't want to start now. It only clicks a couple of times when I try to turn it over.

While installing the new battery I did get sparks from the terminals, I have tested it and I am getting, from the terminal screws, just over 12V. This is a good thing.

When I got in the car I have the fan running and lights, including the headlights, and everything is hunky dory. I then turn the ignition over and I get nothing with the exception of a couple of clicks sometimes.

When I turn it over everything electrical turns off with the exception of the headlights, at first. After about a second the headlights go off also, they don't dim they turn off like that is what they were designed to do.

I have tried putting the key in the door and locking/unlocking several times and tried to start it again with no luck. I have tried to resync the remote, didn't make since but it was easy and I am desperate.

I know the nice weather we are currently having will not last and it will get cold soon, I would like to take it for a ride with the top down before it gets cold again. Can anyone help or am I going to have to call a tow truck?

Where is the starter. I have been reading about testing the voltage getting to the starter but I don't even know where it is. I have not worked on this car yet so I don't know where anything is.

I will try to find it, if for nothing else but to see where it is. I have been reading some other threads and have found that it is displaying all the symptoms of a VATS problem. When I turn the key over nothing happens but the security light keeps flashing.

I just noticed that I misspelled Camaro, sorry for that I have fat fingers. Anyway, I found the problem was with the VATS system. The key lock cylinder was not reading the resistance chip in the key properly. I tested this by checking the resistance on the key then created the proper resistance using the below guide. The big difference that I did was I DID NOT cut the orange wire. This wire runs into a connector which can be separated and some small flat push connectors can be used to the side of the connector that goes away from the steering column. This way the whole modification can be made without any destruction to the existing parts, not that it really matters.

Probably a starter/solinoid issue. If you can't replace this yourself, you will need to call a tow truck. If you can locate the starter, you can try tapping on it with a hammer while a friend turns the ignition. This only works if a sticky starter is the issue. If it's a solinoid issue, it will require replacement to get it running. The soliniod is usually a built in unit with the starter, so you will probably end up replacing both anyway. Tapping may save you a tow bill.

I'm not sure if you're best bet getting to it is going to be from the top of the hood or underneath.... but most likely it will be from underneath, somewhere near where the motor meets the transmission. Typical starter/solenoid units look like this...

Take a hammer and tap on the fat part (starter) while you have a friend turn the key. Like I mentioned before, this may not be the solution...

94 camero z28 drivers power window doesn't work passenger side does changed out switch still not working. Can you help me?

You would need to test the switch with a meter to see if it has power and ground in both up and down positions.
Since the driver's window is used the most, often times the problem is the motor.

2000 POark Avenue. Engine goes dead on highway, at stop sign. Started two weeks ago. Mechanic says no engine code show up, but a baffle in the catalytic converter is brokien. Doesn't seem like this...

There are no baffles in an exhaust converter

There are only three ceramic honey combs, with
precious metals on them

They are for the 3 stages of the converters catalytic process

You do not need codes to diagnose any vehicle
They can road test with scan tool & other test equipment

A worn out fuel pump would be a good guess
Also crank position sensor
Air Idle Solenoid

A new repair shop may be in order also

I have a 2000 Denali that just turned over 200,000 and has never given me any problem until 2 weeks ago. I went to start it and it turned over and acted like it wasn't getting any fuel but wouldn't start...

Well, if you jumped the battery and it started, maybe you need a new battery. Get that checked out first. Also, when was the air filter replaced? I would probably take to an indy shop if it wasn't the battery or air filter because it could be a bunch of things: starter, fuel pump, fuel filter or fuel injectors.
