Re: speedometer not working
If the speedo is the only thing that is not working then it has a defective stepper motor, that is the little motor that moves the needle, it can be repaired, most of the cost is removing the speedo and re-installing it, so if u can do that u will save allot of green, ask the dealer for the name and phone number of the company that fixes there speedo's, don't go through the dealer, they will 2X the repair bill, go directly to the repair station.

Ok the 2002 Maxima 3.5 requires premium fuel 91 octane. According to the owners manual for optimum performance use 91 octane, you can use 87 octane unless you get pinging sounds. Sounds like you just need to use the proper octane. Occasionally I will run regular 87 and can really feel a loss of power. When I use 91 octane the car is a rocket ship.
You may have s speedo cable that connects from the back of your instrument cluster to the transmission. If that is the case, the needle where it connected to is broken. You will have to pull out the cluster to get the broken needle out and to loosen cable. Disconnect from transmission and replace.
If you got ignition lights it won't be the fuse.
Check that the speedo gear is ok and then check the cable is ok.
If all those are ok then check that the speedo head is working by spinning the cable in the speedo head.
Its located on the air cleaner box (the box where your air filter is) Its had cylindrical shape and kinds square on the top its black in color and had a plug on it. There is rubber intake hose connected to it. Good luck and thanks for using Fix-ya
I'd start by changing the thermostat. Make sure you let it run for quite a while after, when adding coolant back into system, with heater on (not defrost) at least long enough for rad fan to come on 2 or 3 times, before you put cap back on the rad, to make sure all air is bled out of the system, then top up return bottle.
