1999 Dodge Caravan running rough at idle and lack of acceleration
I have had a tuneup done replacing plugs, wires, and air filter. The engine shakes at isle and accelerates roughly. There is little power as well. I have an engine code showing P1491 for a check engine light and have different reasons for the code - Fan relay or emissions control module. I need some help in troubleshooting this issue.

Here are a few things to check that aren't that exspencive to do. check you'r o2 scener and the map scencer.try tapping on the cadiletice convertor to see if can hear any rattling if there is any rattliling the cadiletice converter could be clogged and will need to be replaced. You can also have the emission control module tested to see if it working properly.

This sounds like you might have a bad plug wire or something else in the ignition system is arcing to ground. A quick way to verify this is to run the truck in Park at idle. Next, spray the ignition wires with Windex. You'll notice the truck starting to rough up and might even see the bad wire arcing to ground. A complete tuneup would be recommended in this case.
I hope this helps! :)
Mrs Amanda when you said on pushing the gas pedal is shaking do you mean the whilst accelerating with engine running ( reving) you do receive a shake? or when pushing the pedal you do feel on the pedal with engine off a shake? If it is the first check for any spark plug or spark plug HT Lead not working and cause the engine to shake. If is the second cause then check for your pedal connection cable etc.
Take your car for a compression test to see if there is any
vacuum leak causing the engine to run rough. Also, this could be due to a bad
MAF sensor or an O2 sensor. If the check engine light is ON, you should better
get the codes read.
how old is this truck ? needs complete tuneup, new air & fuel filters, wintertime brings out the all the problems, also, replace EGR valve, & PCV valve, they will choke the hell out of the engine, your filters are very important also, if there dirty/old, they will starve the engine. talk to the ole girl while you do all this work, she'll respond, I promise !!!! make sure all the vacumn lines are good, tighten all throttle body bolts, etc
if i were you i would start with a fuel filter, if that helps, but its still not quite right, replace plugs and wires also, basically a general tuneup of plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, will most definately fix your problem.. the fuel filter alone may.. hope this helps
This can be your Idle control valve, when you turn the air on it puts the engine under load and your computer will increase the idle automatically to prevent the engine from cutting out.
When you are standing still and the car is shaking, by touching the accelerator very softly does the shaking stop? If so check the idle control valve.
I hope this will help.
