I would personally run the 20 50 in an engine with that many miles. since you are using oil with thinner oil

My 4runner has 160,000 miles on it. The oil cap says to use 10-30 oil which I have always. What would using 20-50 do to the engine? And what is really the difference between the two?

It's the thickness of the oil at temperature. If your truck calls for 10-30 I wouldn't go any thicker because you risk the oil not being able to circulate correctly and you can seize the motor. Here is a more complete definition http://www.driverstechnology.co.uk/oils.htm

Camal engine. pls kindly help me type of diesel oil to use for my below engine camal ! Model 178 weight 33 maxout put 4.04kw(5.5hp)/3000rpm 4.41kw(6.0hp)3600rpm replacement 0.296l air cooled diesel...

the make CAMAL is new to me but it will use standard clearances as any other diesel engine to be reliable. The viscosity you name (20W--50) would cover most operating conditions where the ambient temperature ranges from 15 degrees C to 80 degrees c. Diesels have to operate with at least 80% load or they tend to glaze up the bores and blow smoke. The oil you name is a single grade oil and should prevent this problem but multi-grade oils will do the same if kept fully loaded . The brand name will be irrelevent as the viscosity is what counts.

Want to put 20w-50 oil in car. 200,000 miles on car.car is chevy lumina 1990

20 w - 50 motor oil is a pretty heavy weight of a motor oil, normally engines either perform better on 5 w- 30, or 10 w - 30, if you have a owners manual , you can check in it to see what the manufacturer calls for , if you don't have a manual, then look on the oil cap, where you pour the oil into, it should have the information on the cap. there is even motor oils on the market specifically recommended for engines that have over 75,000 miles on them, one of them is valvoline max life. you will have to decide what kind that you want, thank you , and hope that this information has helped you.

What weight of oil should I put in my Cadillac

10w-40 in cold season and 20w-50 in summer seasons, and fully-synthetic oil is the best type, and i prefer to use castrol gtx or Valvoline( we took apart an engine with 40,000 miles that had been run on penzoil and it was all gummed up with sludge)

What weight oil is used for a 1984 2wd toyota pickup

10w 40 - 20w 50 is good depeding on the mileage. If it is higher mileage, I would use the heavier oil(20w 50). If the engine has been rebuilt or is well maintained, low mileage, use the lower weight oil. Any quality brand will work. If you decide on synthetic, you will be stuck with synthetic! Royal Purple or Lubro Moly makes really great products to give longevity to your engine. It will come with a bigger price tag though.

Oil and Gas

1986 CHRYSLER FIFTH AVENUE 5.2L 8-cyl Engine Code [P]

LUBRICANTS & FLUIDS:
Engine Oil Grade 1....SAE ..API*
Above -18C......10W-30, 10W-40, 10W-50
Above -7C......20W-40, 20W-50

CAPACITIES:
Engine, without filter..........3.8 liters Add extra oil when replacing filter. After refill check oil level.

Use Lucas oil treatment and use the 10W-40, if your going to use the 20W-50. Use no oil treatment, the 20W-50 is thick enough. 15W-40 is what's used on the Diesel engines use on the 18 wheel trucks.

Thank you for using fixya.

Can I use Castrol 20W-50 engine oil in 2004 Range Rover HSE 4.4,ran for 102300 mile, instead of Castrol Edge 20w-40 where ambint temp range is 32-132 F

I think you should wait until you know the ambient temp will not go below about 50. If you've ever seen a 20w50 at or near freezing temperatures, it is as thick as honey. This is hard on oil pumps and it take a few second longer for the pump to start building pressure. I think a better choice might be to put in an additive like Lucas or STP. These additives tend to cling to bearings and reduce wear at engine start-up.

Weight oil?

I'd use 5 w 30 in cold or cool weather, then switch to 10 w 30 or, 10 w 40, when it gets hotter.

What type of oil should i use? for a 2002 jag.

A quick call to any jag dealer should give you specifics (or your owners manual) My personal recomendation is a synthetic 20w/50. Synthetics usually cover a wider range than indicated on the label, and will out perform any conventional lubricant.(regardless of brand) Therefore 20w/50 will give you all the protection you need against wear and will still retain a low pour point in temperature extremes.

OIL ISSUE

I have a 94 4.0L and I use 10W-40 in the winter and 20W-50 in the summer. It keeps the pressure up and it doesn't smoke when I start it because of the valve seals. It takes 8 quarts everytime including the filter. 2 gallon jugs. I change it about every 4,000 miles.
