Blend door actuator failed ,how do i fix it?

Wont switch from cool to heat, stuck on air conditioner

The temperature blend door actuator itself is not repairable....it will have to be replaced. Its located under the center dash and is screwed to the heater box. I have included a picture of what it looks like.

had this problem before... recheck part#....is it for EATC or MANUAL...??? eatc on a manual will only go to half way...sounds like they gave you the wrong part....its a pain to replace wasn't it.....hope this helped you...GL

I recently did mine, I hear you can do it without taking the entire dash apart but I had no luck with it myself. I have to get ready for work but, on mine it was located down and to the left of the radio. its a white box...are you hearing a clicking noise or something? I had to roll the entire dash back and it was still a major pain getting it out.

Control System Inputs
Climate Control Assembly
The climate control assembly has three control systems:

  • The A/C heater function selector switch combines a vacuum selector valve for direct control of the vacuum control motors and electrical input to the instrument cluster module.
  • The temperature selection is accomplished with a potentiometer connected to the electric blend door actuator that controls positioning of the temperature blend door. Movement of the control knob (18519) from COOL (blue) to WARM (red) causes a corresponding movement on the air temperature control door and determines the temperature that the system will maintain.
  • The blower motor switch controls the blower motor speed through a series of resistors and a relay.
Control System Outputs
Blower Motor Switch Resistor
The heater blower motor switch resistor has the following features:
  • The assembly is located on the passenger side of the plenum assembly behind the glove compartment (06010).
  • Three resistance elements are mounted on the resistor board to provide four A/C blower motor speeds.
  • Depending on the heater blower motor switch position, series resistance is added or bypassed in the A/C blower motor circuit to decrease or increase A/C blower motor speed.
  • An overheating protective device (thermal limiter) will open the resistor coil circuit when the temperature reaches 121°C (250°F), interrupting the blower motor operation in all speeds except HI.
  • The thermal limiter cannot be reset.

A/C Electric Blend Door Actuator
The A/C electric blend door actuator is located on the plenum assembly.
  • Its function is to move the air temperature blend door on command from the control assembly.
  • The A/C electric blend door actuator contains a reversible electric motor and a potentiometer. The potentiometer wiper is connected to the actuator output shaft and moves with the output shaft to indicate the position of the air temperature blend door.

LOOK FOR BLOWN WINDOW CIRCUIT BREAKER.YOU HAVE A SHORT IN WINDOW SWITCH OR BAD WINDOW ELECTRIC MOTOR.YOUR HEAT PROBLEM IS A STOPPED UP HEATER CORES.THE STOP LEAK STOP ITS HEAT.THE STOP LEAK HAS STOPPED OR PLUGGED YOUR HEATER CORE SO COOLANT CANT PASS THROUGH IT.YOU GOING HAVE TO FIX RADIATOR LEAK AND REPLACE HEATER CORE TO GET HEAT AGAIN.
