I drove my Bravada to work and when I got off of work it would not start. And I did not hear the fuel pump trun on. So I taped on the Tank with a hammer to see if that would help out. And it seems to help. But dose that mean that my fuel pump is going bad or is it just the gas?

Re: 1998 Olds Bravada
U have a defective fuel pump, the bearings on the pump rotor shaft are worn and this causes it to stick, u are goimng to have replace the pump or it will strand you for good soon, remember to replace the fuel filter as well or the pump warranty is void, read the fine print.

if you replace module and still had no spark. then it was not the module it could be the ignition coil. you need spark no spark no run...check power to the distrbutor. check that the distrbutor is turning.
First check the spark up at the engine. Also turn the key to the on position with out turning it over and listen and see if the fuel pump primes. You should hear it hum. Thats where I would start anyway. If you don't hear it prime, then the fuel pump is out. If it is running and you are getting spark, then you may have to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to it and make sure you are getting enough pressure.
Bad TPS will give you a SES light. Possible low fuel pressure from bad fuel pump. Put a fuel pressure gauge on the service port close to the firewall, should stay above 50 psi when juicing the gas. Only use OEM parts on a Bravada! Try "thepartsladi" store on eBay.
As far as the turning of the key on and back off and then it starting, it sounds like a fuel pump problem. The fuel pump only primes for 2 sec and therefore cycling the key builds up enough pressure in order for the vehicle to start. As for why the vehicle is not cranking, that I do not know. I would check the battery terminals for corrosion and try to clean them.
check for power at the sending unit should have power for 10 sec on i belive the purple wire and the other wire will have power all the time power for 10 sec is what u want for fuel pump power ahd if u have power u should be able to hear fuel pump if you have power and do not hear pump pull sender out and check connection from pump to sender also check fuel connection from pump to sender
