Question about 1993 Ford Mustang

Computer codes 223, 224

I have a 92 Mustang with the 2.3 liter with 8 spark plugs. I pulled the 223, 224 codes out of the computer. The car may run great one moment then run bad the next and then good again. It feels like it is missing on one or two cyl. What is wrong with this car?

I've already changed plugs and wires. This problem started weeks after I changed them. The car will run great for days/miles then the next time I start it it may run bad. I may drive it a few blocks and the car will just start running good. Then I can pull up to a stop and the car may or may not run good. What do you think?

This engine doesn't have a distibutor. When the engine is running right it is really smooth and has power. Then all of a sudden the engine will run bad, run rough and have very little power. I can smell unburned fuel and it feels like the engine is missing on a cyl. or two. Then maybe a couple of blocks later, the engine will start running right again. I appreciate your help.

Hi, This exact problem with the same make and model car was posted last month on 2carpros web site. They give the same two codes with a very detailed, lengthy description on exactly what to do. It cannot be answered any better! Check out the 2carpros website forum. Credit to: bluelightnin6, Certified 2CarPros Technician

Sounds like your missfiring on a couple of cylinders i would give the vehicle a tune-up first and formost change plugs and wires usally a bad spark can give u more trouble than you think

sounds like it could be quite a few issure mainly what i think it may be is a bad distributer cap seems that if you have replace sparks and wires and car is still running erratic or the problem could be a simpler solution after checking that i'de check air filter fuel filter and pcv all factors in a rough idle

Need to adjust timming on 91 ford mustang

pull the spout connector (a grey jumper located in the engine wiring harness either near the code reader port or the distributor) and put a timing light on the #1 spark plug wire. Aim the light at the pointer near the 10-o'clock position on the harmonic balancer (looking aft) while the engine is running and rotate the distributor until you see the pointer aiming at 8-10* BTDC. Don't forget to put the spout connector back in when you're done or else the computer won't be able to automatically advance the timing.

I have a 93 ford mustang 4 cylinder 2.3 liter engine and need the wiring diagram for the spark plug wires. this is confusing because it is a 4 cylinder with 8 spark plugs and my brother didnt mark them...

The firing order and spark plug wiring layout is depicted in over-the-counter repair manuals like the Haynes for '87-93 Ford Mustangs. If you can't spend the ~$20 on one of those (available at Pep Boys, Autozone, eBay, Amazon, etc) you should be able to check one out from your local library.

I dont know in what order my spark plug wires hooked up.

Chec here the MUSTANG FIRING ORDER

Below are the firing orders for 5.0L, 4.6L, 3.8L, and 2.3L late model Mustangs. Remember to be very careful when checking your firing order because the ignition system on your car runs on very high voltage. Do not remove spark plug wires from the distributor or spark plugs while the engine is running.
Firing order sequences:
V8's 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
V6's 1-4-2-5-3-6
2.3L 1-3-4-2

Also, need check the PCM for someone short; sometimes this is the reason it wasn't sending a signal to the coil. You have constant power at the coil but the ground signal doesn't fluctuate from on to off while the engine is cranking. If the hall effects switch in the distributor is bad it won't tell the PCM when to fire the coil and the hall effect switch also operates the tachometer. So if this switch is bad the tach and the coil would not work.

Good luck.

Ford mustang - year 2000 - 3.8 liter. The coil pack is out?

I replaced the coil pack to no avail. I also purchase a code reader while at the auto parts store. This device told me cylinder 3 was misfiring (P0303). I found that the spark plug wire had shorted out on the manifold sensor tubes. Replaced that wire and done.

I highly recommend keeping a code reader in your car tool kit. very useful.
