Question about 1999 GMC Sierra
Put iridium spark plugs in it and a set of ac plug wires...got my wires off e-bay they are $80 and up elsewhere. my 99 gmc sierra smokes all 4 tires now, but had the same symptoms before. this is maintenence anyway no loss either way. this will definately rule out the plugs n wires at the very least. dont assume a big problem b4 ya got one. Try the Mass Air flow sensor, I had the same problem. I cleaned my MAS and it has been working great since.

Check the fuel pressure regulator. Mine was doing the same thing and the pressure regulator was the problem.

SOURCE: sputtering when accelerating
If it idles ok and only "sputters" under load it could be either an ignition or fuel problem. How long has it been since the fuel filter was changed? How about spark plugs and wires? Without the proper diagnostic equipment and the vehicle in front of me, these are the easiest things for the DIYer to tackle with the fuel filter being the cheapest option.
