Exactly the same thing is happening to mine. A local garage think it might be the EGR valve. I have had it cleaned, but a replacement would cost ~£180, and they cant be sure it is that.

    Cheers Mike.

I have the same problem on my '53 plate, has been better since the air filter was done, but the EGR valves on the Renault Engines are rather finiky, best thing to do is remove it and clean all the soot off of it regularly.

Hi there!

It's very likely a valve stem seal that has split. This will allow oil into the cylinder from the crank gallery.

Off with it's head! I'm afraid.

The only other thing it can be is overfueling - but then it will be sputtering and lagging on acceleration.
You can check which cylinder is affected by removing the plugs and looking for the oily one. They will all need replacing really as it's false economy to do just 1. The seals are cheap. I would get a new cambelt fitted at the same time - as it has to come off anyway.

(If this leads to a solution, please take the time to rate as Fixya! - Thank you)

SOURCE: Renault Clio dci - 2004 - wont start 50% of the time

Could be the start interuptor. You have a casing around your lock with a coil in it which communicates with your key. If you remove the plastic under your steering wheel, you can rotate and pull this a little outward so it will be closer to your key. This worked for me.

1.9 dci no power and bluey grey smoke is coming from the exhaust

There are indeed traces of oil coming out of the exhaust. Blue smoke is burning oil. Grey or white smoke is usually coolant/water going through the engine. This can be caused by leaking head gaskets, valve guides depending on the engine, excessive blow-by, etc. Large amounts of oil are not good; and water is even worse. I would look at getting the head gasket replaced. The loss of power is because neither oil or water likes to burn, and once your engine clears it out, it probably runs ok for the rest of the day. Then I'm guessing the next morning, it comes back. This is an urgent fix, because prolonged leakage can damage the engine block, head, or both.
