Question about 2002 Mercury Mountaineer
02 mountaineer auto awd will not disengage from awd
If the vehicle is made to be a AWD you cannot get it out of AWD unless you take off the front drive shaft

AWD does not mean it is always in AWD. There is a coupler that engages when the vehicle senses slippage in the front tires. Check transfer case, viscous coupler perhaps.
