SOURCE: I have a 05 F150

check the switch under the hood. right hand side on the fire wall just under the wiper cowl. this happened to me. ford says water from the wipers leak on the switch and shorts it out. they replaced the switch and losely put a plastic over it to keep the water out. make sure not to put the plastic too tight, it is vacuum , so it needs to breath. Also check the front wheel accuators that engage the front end(next to the wheels), ford had some bad accuators that would not hold the pressure this to also happened to me. ford should pass it on a goodwill warranty. hopefully nothing else is broken. cost me $500 because i damaged the wheel bearings. ford won't pay for those.

If your tires are on the ground the drive shaft wont spin, it sounds like your push button is either not connected or the one in the transfer case is jamed

Check your hubs lift front end if wheel does not turn when locked in 4x4 then hubs are not engaging turn wheel by hand or a pipe wrench on drive shaft do not try power unless all wheels are lifted

Change a bearing in 1983 ford f150 4 wheel drive

need special socket from parts store remove allen bolts from front alex, loose first axle nut. with neddle nose pliers pull out tab ring .then loosen second ring bearing will be next might have to wiggle wheel to get bearing to slid out. replace bearing snug first lock-nut against bearing keep track of lock nut with *** on it that one is first then {DON'T OVER TIGHTEN} then put ring with holes on next nake sure *** is in a hole, then tighten last lock ring watch how you take hub off make sure hubs are not locked in. after you are done with vech.in air lock hubs ane rotate tire to make sure front axel {drive shaft} turns . I use super blue wheel bearing. grease I pack my bearings every two years

Have 06 f150 have avibration while driving down

Two things to look for, one is the drive shaft u joints, and drive shaft timing. all the u-joints should line up. Next check for a bent/ damaged wheel. I had to swap mine one wheel at the time with a known good wheel till I found the bad wheel that a bal. did not find.

CV joint questions

well now,,,il tell you a storie,,,better sit down?
the cv joints are the joints in a drive train that for use of a better word "bend the drive shaft" so it dont brake when you turn a corner,,,ie:parking! inside the cv joint is held on the drive shaft be some splines in the drive shaft and a spring clip holds it all together there is an "inner bell" it has normaly 5 slots in it that have big "ball bearings" in them that slid around up and down these slots on the out side of the cv joint is the outer "bell" this also has slots that the ball bearings fit into so the drive trough the cv is compleat,,,when you turn the wheels the cv joints slids round on these ball bearings twisting round but the drive from the engine is still transmited to the road wheeles trough the cv
when this cv joint starts to were out the ball bearings are pitted and not ball shaped any more and the slots they run in are not smooth that to gets pitted what happens is the cv starts to "crack" under load,,,and vibrate when turning or being driven you drive down the road at 50 mph and the car feels like its driving over stones in the road its vidrating off the cv joint then when you turn the wheel on full lock to pull away you here a very big cracking or clicking sound, like,,,,,click click click, and the more power you put on the more they click very soon people start turning around and look at you? oh yes they here it to!
the vibration that comes off the cv will reck the transmission becouse of the wipping of the drive shafts,,,, to test your cv joints to see if there good or bad one's put the car on full lock and pull away,, if there is a cracking sound or a klicking sound there shot away and you need new ones fitted
now then,,,storie over,,, its time for sleepy sleeps

2003 f150 crew 4wd Lost 4WD tranfer case locks

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground.
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

03 supercrew f150 steering

check the steering linkage of the front end for loose components, most can be checked with the vehicle on the ground.
Also , check the Intermediate Steering Shaft for play, this runs between the steering gear box & the lower part of the steering column. it has an expandable section with 2 overlapping shafts that can wear & become loose with age & driving

Can't remove the differential from my '02 ram 1500

Has the drive shaft yoke been removed from the axle housing??? If not, remove the drive shaft. Once the drive shaft has been removed, Remove the nut that holds the drive shaft yoke and slid the yoke off the differential shaft. That will let you slid the differential from the axle housing once you unbolt the differential from the axle housing. Good luck and hope this helps.

Ford 4x4 frint wheels wont engage

if you look there is probably only one axle shaft turning also that shaft should not turn unless the wheels are there is probably something wrong with that hub not a big problem to tear down and check you can also get replacement hubs that are manual locking.
