Question about 1996 Audi A6

1 Answer

Audi 1996 A6 wagon - battery drains if car not used for 4-5 days

We park our car in a New York City parking garage, and drive it once every 2 weeks.  The car needs to be jump started if it hasn't been driven in 4-5 days.  The battery holds a charge fine - it's not a problem with the battery.
Audi service in NYC was unable to diagnose the problem, and a German car specialist couldn't either.
Thinking the problem was a drain from an electronical component, we disconnected the sunroof/moonroof and radio.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.  We're taking in into Audi (again) for service tomorrow, and will suggest they try this.

Unhook the battery completely and see if it will start after a couple of days. if it does you probably have a wire stripped and grounded out. all you need to do is install a power disconect key in the car, and you wont have any more problems.

ok there are only 2 causes.
1: as always bad batteries can do that.... (i use test battery from on other car, unless new $125 batteries are cheap to you.
or charge IT , and and use my load tester.
$20 at Harbor FRIGHT(pun)

2: or is phantom drain,
here is page that covers all ways to find a drain.

if car battery drains driving, check the charging system.

When I turn on my car Audi a6 2004 it won't let me go from park to drive why is that

could be the switch in the braking system that must be engaged to shift out of park is broken or non functioning because of wiring or sensor not working. When Audi got in trouble with the un-intended acceleration issue, they installed this safety feature so that your foot had to be on the brakes before it would shift out of park.

05 Audi A6 won't start if it sits in the cold all night

Turn the key to on position, then press brake shift out of park and cycle through reverse ,neutral, drive, etc....then place it back in park.try to tap it as far forward to make sure it is in park so that the sensor is reading it is in park.try to start vehicle.....if it starts,,,then it is your neutral safety switch. I have seen this in the past.

The battery is constantly being replaced because it dies. I drive the car at least once a week sometimes more. I have had the car for 2 years already replaced the alternator and have replaced 2 new...

i suggest you visit another dealership. ask for the "head tech" to look at your vehicle. if something on the car is draining the battery they should be able to pinpoint the problem. if you have any aftermarket electronics installed make sure they know what they are. also on the 430 if the doors are nto completely closed the light at the bottom of the door opening will stay on. you should not need to "turn the car on" every other day. thats nonsense. if you park in a garage try pulling into the garage shut the door and turn out the lights, if something is on in the car you may be able to see it.

Engine won't start. Doesn't seem to be a battery problem. Plenty of juice. Coincidentally (perhaps) the car was inspected this morning. After an hour's drive to work after passing inspection (no issues...

I had the same thing with my 96 Audi A6 - what fixed it for me was placing a new ground strap between the engine block and the body. It appears the ends of the old cable were corroded.
