2001 Lexus RX 300 Power Problems

Whenever I start my car recently I have noticed that the lights on the dashboard heve started to flicker some. It wasent really a big deal but over the last year it has started to get worse. Now it is even starting to effect the power of my car. Whenever I hit the gas it dosent pickup like it used to and whenever it switches gears it makes you kind of rock back and forth. Since this has started about a year ago the lights inside have gotten so bad that when I turn my dome light on it is almost turning on and off. One thing that made me really get on here today is that I have a radar detector and the power was so bad that everytime I hit the gas it kept turning itself on and off. I am open for any solutions for this, the only minor things that I have tried to fix this is I got my battery checked out but it seemed to be fine (its only about a year and a half old). I also thought that it might be a bad belt since the one that runs my altenator was squeeking, but all that did was take away the squeeking noise. I am open for any suggestions to what have checked out.

Thanks,
Thomas

This sounds like the alternator itself may need a rebuild. the dial rods are bad. its causing uneven charging and current flow. that explains the flickering and low power in the radar sockets plugs. i would also do a complete wiring check for strand breakage.
