Question about 1986 Mercedes-Benz 300

Loss of power, tapping noise

I was driving my 300e. when i got off the highway and slowed down i noticed a loss of power and hesitation when accelerating. It runs great except for this new problem. It starts right up, no smoke. My oil pressure gauge is at 2.0 instead of 3. Also on the dash board, a warning light that is a circle with dashes around it keeps going on. Is this a cylinder problem? I have not changed my plugs or cap/rotor for a 14 months. However, like i said, it just all of a sudden happened.

Yes, this car needs care and fast. you are experiencing a loss in compression rate. this can be from bad rings and, cylinder stress. i would tune it up with new plugs and wires and, distributor cap points as well but, i think this is more serious than that. the cam may be bad as well.

If you hear some misfiring, this is caused by bad valve springs. you may have a lot of issues here. sounds like a total re haul may be needed in the near future.

When i pull out slow no noise but when i pull out fast i hear a clicking noise on my 2000 dodge dakota quad i dont really notice any noise when driving down the highway

The clicking may come from how fast the pistons are moving. An oil change would probably not be a bad idea. You could also try seafoam products to clear out carbon build up in your engine.

at that high a mileage it could be very likely the trans is starting to fail, have the computer tested for transmission trouble code's (trans is fully electronically shifted and controlled), also it is very unlikely the alignment check is related.
