99 Dodge Durango Dies When Slowing

I've got 99 Dodge Durango that has recently started dying when I slow to a stop. It does not heat up or has any other indicators of serious problems. The check engine light is not on and it starts fine, even after it dies. It will stay on fine while idling. I've done a tune-up (wires, plugs, air filter, oil, fluids, ect.) everything looked good but no change. Any Ideas? Maybe the fuel filter (I don't relish the idea of dropping the tank)? Or a sensor somewhere?

I am having a similar problem.I have a 1998 Dodge Durango.I started the car up this morning went back inside and when I came back out the engine was off but everything else was on.Started it back up went inside came back out--the same thing.I started it back up stayed in the car and noticed it was idling a lot to the number 1,so i put my foot on the accelerator real quickly and it went halfway between 0 and 1 for a minute and then all of a suddened it idled down to zero and shut off.I started it back up and i put it in drive and it did ok for a second and then when i got to a speed bump and had to put my foot on the brake to slow down,it idled back down to zero and shut off.Someone said it could be spark plugs, selonoid or even timing belt(which i doubt). Can anyone give me an answer to what you think it might be?

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

The only spray I could find was CRC throttle body and air intake cleaner. The instructions on the can say something totally different than what you have posted. My question is, did I buy the correct spray and if so is it safe to use the way you have stated on herecleaner. The instructions on th

Just had the water pump timing belt and tension wheel replaced...now it stalls and dies when trying to stop or slowing down to turn...it will roughly idle in park...if it dies it starts right back

sounds like the timing is one(maybe two) teeth out of time on the timing belt. the computer is trying to advance or ****** the timing to compensate for the misaligned camshaft spockets.

My 2000 Durango 4.7 liter V8 starts fine, runs fine, but dies when it comes to a stop. I had my software and module redone 3 months ago and about 2 weeks ago it started shifting slow and hard. Then today...

Could be a bad catalytic converter. Have the exhaust back pressure checked. Check the fuel pressure & if possible, drive with the gauge on & see what happens when it dies. If the pressure is good, then it's not fuel. Write back if you have more issues.

How long have you been driving? Have you had the fuel filter replaced? It sounds as if may be a fuel delivery issue.

Shifts hard from 2nd to 1st, then dies when you stop

The transmission control module is adaptable. This is a real common complaint with the A604. You need to take the vehicle to a shop with a scan tool and have the TCM ran through a quick learn adaptive reset procedure. The dying problem is likely a bad crank sensor
