Question about 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Remote starter / keyless entry does not work

I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu, the remote starter and RKE stopped working last summer. It has since gotten cold and I really would like to be able to warm the vehicle before getting into it, or even just unlock the doors without fumbling for my keys. When it first stopped working I had the battery changed in the key-fob and even had a dealership test the fob, they said that it emitted a signal but for anything else it would cost 90 dollars to even LOOK. I have checked the fuse, it looks fine and my XM radio also runs off from the RKE fuse, it too works as intended.
Any ideas what else it could be? I push any buttons on the remote and get no reactions from the car at all. I have no Service lights on as I've heard that can prohibit the vehicle from starting with the fob, but even then it should open the locks.

Just changed battery, which is what my first thought was obviously but futile it was. Began researching and based on the fact that my car has some repair work done and a new radio/amp installed, I'm going to start looking that way. I found this link to be somewhat helpful. Good luck.

Start the car with the key, wait 15 seconds, then press startbutton on the remote while the car is already running, you may need to do this 2 times inorder to reprogram the remote

Did this to my wife's 04 Malibu maxx, replaced battery and broke a solder joint when removing battery, re-soldered it and it still didnt work, tested fob and it was working properly, checked online for different fixes, of course none worked. then i had the bright idea that maybe for some reason the car needs to be reset so i disconnected the battery for s@#ts and grins i disconnected both negative and positive though its not likely needed, opened my door to activate the lights to get rid of any residual power and reconnected the battery, immediately the fob worked perfectly again, shut the hood and the remote start worked. the why of this i dont know but for any one else that may encounter this, disconnect and reconnect your battery first before you take it to a dealer to have it fixed. It worked for me hope it helps you.

I have a 06 Malibu Maxx and out of the blue the remote stopped working. We had the remote checked and it was fine. After searching the internet and trying a million different things we found your solution and decided to give it a try. Well it worked! Thanks so much for the idea! I'm so happy my command start is working again! :)

Keyless remote wont work. remote is transmitting a signal

chances are the remote keyless entry module (RKE) has electrical issues, see if there are problems with wiring, connectors or fuses.

How can i start my car without Remote keyless entry?

Use the driver's door key cylinder> Lock and unlock the car with the key after all doors are closed and this should solve the problem. If not, then it has nothing to do with the RKE Transmitter.
