Question about 2003 Chevrolet Venture Passanger

Need wiring diag. for ign. switch starts but goes off after 3sec.

Took key switch apart and know that its back in place runs for 3 sec. and turns off

You have probably triggered the anti theft device and will likely need to have it reset

Turn IGN to ON/RUN but don't start engine
Fully depress pedal 3 times within a total of 5-secs

If you have the Driver information center
Turn IGN to ON/RUN but don't start engine

Runs for about 3sec.then shuts off

There is a problem with tbe SKIS (sentry key immobilizer system).If the key symbol flashes, there is a problem with the key. Try an other key if you have one.
If the key light is on steady, then there is a malfunction of the system itself. It need to be scanned using DRBIII scanner to know what is failing.

Car died while running and wont start or even turn over. Could the relay switch be bad?

Check ALL FUSES!!!!!!!! Believe it or not I workd on a Buick Century mid 90's model and a fuse marked for injectors was bad and car would not turn over from ign switch. This also caused a no charging problem at the same time cause ign switch sent no signal to alternator to charge.

Not getting fuel to start engine.

How about the security light on dashboard? It flashes every 2 sec. When u turn the key on it should stay on constanly for 3 sec then go off. If it flashes rapidly, like mine did, then it isnt reading the key. I took some electronic contact cleaner and sprayed it in the ignition whele slidin the key in an out. And it works now. I have to tilt the steerin wheel all the way down also. Not sure why. It took me a while to fig out what was going on with it. I even chngd the pump. It cuts the pwr off to the pump. but there is pwr at safety switch. If it stops wrkn again i will run a wire from it to pump. Better than new sec key and computer. Also when you start it for first time ea day. Turn key on till u hear pump run and stop. Then turn off and on again so it will build up more fuel pressure. Hope this helps. Take neg bat cable off b4 spraying the ignition

I was listening to the radio with the key turned backwards and now it wont start . But it will if I jump the sylanoid

Most likely the pot metal gear inside the column that the tumbler pushes on,column has to come apart(steering wheel removal,ect. You could make sure by watching the rod under the column that goes into the ign. switch,while you turn the key. Should be able to grab the rod with say small visegrips and push it farther,if it runs the starter ,it's the gear,if that all looks ok,ign. switch.

Sounds like your immobilizer is activating. Try another key or you need to take it to a vw dealer for diag and adaptation.

could be ign lock cylinder, it has 2 small wires of which one could have broken. also check your electricfal part of the ign switch at the base of the steering column

Odd starting problem

hi from uk not sure on your model but if your ignition has ballast resistor ie main ign circuit voltage for running is lower 9volt??? say but for a boost start 12 volts is applied when ignition key start position turning engine over ? ok so far ? your problem may be that the ballast (boost 12v ) circuit has failed this results in how when you have ign on it will start as you release starter and engine still has momentum? datsuns use to suffer with this type of ign but with the opposite effect ie car would fire/ attempt to start on key start but stopped when starter was released their ballast resisror was on n/s inner wing and looked rectangular porcelin block with a coiled resistor wire in side for reducing voltage these used to burn out check h/book on ign system ? hope this is of some help ?

Reprogram remote

xl-7 programming instructions first you need to stuff your head up under the dash and locate your module drivers side upper corner under dash does it say programmable transmitter (the first models had no programable modules) if it says that then......
1 confirm all doors are shut and key is out of ignition
2 open drivers door insert key and turn to on within 10 sec
3 turn ignition switch to off in 10 sec
4 push and release drivers door switch 3 times in 20 sec
5 turn ign. switch to on in 10 sec
6 turn ign. switch to off in 10 sec
7 press and hold lock and unlock button on transmitter for 5 sec within 20 sec of step 6 alldoors will lock/unlockto confirm correct process
8 press lock unlock buttons on second remote within 5 sec after step 7 once again all doors will lock/unlock to confirm
9 to add another remote up to a max of four repeat steps 1 through 8 this was taken directly out of an owners manual supplement that comes with a new keyless entry kit (part number for a xl-7 or grand vitara can't remember which one it goes to but it works on either one is 84900-67810) which you would have to purchase if yours is not programable these instructions are the same for vitara, grand vitara, xl-7 and the esteem hope this helps
