Question about 1995 Toyota Tacoma

1 Answer

No power to fuel pump. Power up to open circuit relay. I have a similar problem, however, my 95 Tacoma 4x4 was wrecked and sat up for a while. It was running last fall (2008) and now that I have all the parts it will not start. Getting fire, but no fuel. After checking fuses discovered the EFI fuse was blown, replaced it and it blew out again. When the truck was parked it had very little gas and at first I thought it had run out. Someone told me that the gas probable turned and the fuel filter clogged up and that is why there is no gas at the intake and blowing fuses. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have a very common problem. There is rust on top of the fuel tank, and it is shorting your fuel pump power input. Unplug the connector by the tank, and replace the fuse. If it does not blow, my solution is correct. Remove the tank, or remove the bed, to access the top of the tank. Remove the bracket that holds the pump/fuel sending unit and replace it.

100 percent; IF disconnecting the wiring harness to the tank sending unit stops the fuse from blowing.

Toyota Tacoma fuel problem

Check the following:
- Listen to the fuel pump noise under the fuel tank.
- Starter signal.
- EFI relay, under the hood fuse and relay box.
- Fuel pump operation and pressure.
- Regulating valve.
- Circuit Opening Relay (COR) under the dash.
- Check for open in harness and connector between circuit opening relay and fuel pump, and fuel pump and body ground

Hope that works. Thank you for visiting Fixya.

How to test a fuel pump relay in a 1999 toyota tacoma

Most relays have a diagram on the side showing the terminals by number.
You would take a test light or meter and check the terminals in the fuse box for power and ground. You should have two power wires, one ground from the computer, and the circuit to the pump. Keep in mind the computer grounds the relay for only 3 seconds if the engine does not start.

1991 Ford F-350 7.5. Not getting power at the Inertia Switch from the Fuel pump relay, however the EEC and Fuel pump relay are both working. what could this be?

Have you been in any type of a wreck? If so the inertia switch is located in the circuit between the fuel pump relay and the electric fuel pump(s). If you have been in a significant impact the mechanism inside the switch will cause the switch to open the electrical circuit, shutting off power to the fuel pump as a safety precaution. The inertia switch is in the cab on drivers side, up against the firewall, to the left of the brake pedal or behind the right kick panel. I would suggest buying a new one because it is not something you can reset.

I have a 99 tacoma with no power to fuel pump, fuses are good, power to relay and have swapped relays, but I don't have any power to the fuel pump. Is there some type of inertia switch?

Look to see if you have power at pin 1 of the circuit opening relay. The C.O. Relay is what powers the fuel pump. If you have power there (a blue wire), you have an open circuit between the relay and the pump.

No power to fuel pump. I have power up to the circuit opening relay.

I am not positive how the electronics are routed on a later model truck but I had this same problem on my 89' with a 22re. It turned out that the oil pressure sending unit was in the fuel pump circuit so as to not allow the engine to start with no oil pressure. I changed my sending unit and the truck fired right off. Hope this helps.

No power to fuel pump. Power up to open circuit relay.

No power to the fuel pump is a common issue with Toyota Trucks. More than likely, the power wire at the top of the fuel tank sending unit is rusted off. If this is the case, you either need to drop the tank, or remove the bed to replace the sending unit assembly. I have done it both ways, but have found that removing the bed is easier than dropping the tank.
