2. If the switch doesn't operate either mirror it likely is the switch.
Carefully pry it away from door or dash and check if wires are attached securely.
If they are, check if the contacts are clean - if not, refresh with sandpaper.
Test before replacing.
3. If one mirror works and the other not, suspect either the wire connection inside the mirror or the motor. Remove mirror from its motor by fishing around for the retaining clip (easier done if mirror is turned to the extreme left or right). This will expose the wiring connections and the motor.
If the motor is suspected unscrew the back of mirror and pry off carefully to expose the motor mounting screws. You can then remove the motor and test it with another 12v power source.
If the other side mirror adjusts with the switch, then it could be an issue with the mirror which isn't working. Usually a mirror has two motors, one for up/down and another for left/right. If the mirror works in one direction and not in the other, yet the mirror on the other side works in all directions, then the issue is not the switch, but the mirror.
Unless none of that is relevant and you are talking about the fold function.
If neither mirror folds when you depress the fold button, then you need to check or change the switch as the most likely cause of the issue. If you can provide me with a picture of the switch, then I can try to advise on how to remove and replace it.
I would safely assume your right mirror may be inoperable period then by your statement you are leaving the switch for the mirrors in the middle during switching correct and during adjustment are switching to R/L mirror on the switch? Mirrors are on the same circuit so both should be operable. Have the mirror checked for operation before heading any further. I Think you will find during this its unplugged from its source of power or inoperable period and needs replaced. Make sure your mirror control switch is slid to the right. If the switch is in the left mirror position, it keeps the right mirror in the upward position when in reverse. When the switch is in right mirror position, it moves the right mirror in the downward position when in reverse. Hope this helps.
I would start with making sure ur selector switch is not in the off postion just in case lol. next I would have to take door panel off get at the switch and see if you have power going to the switch this can be done with just a 12volt tester. Then if power is coming to switch operate see if power is going out, use selector switch to see if power goes out to left then try right mirror and for fun in off postion no power to either. the switch may just have a bad connection or broken because it is very douhtful both are bad but if the mirrors never get move they can seize up it a good pratice to more them every so often hope this helps get started in the right direction.
I belive you are right in saying it is just the direction switch because i have never heard of both mirrors going out just like each other and at the exact same time. you do not need to go to a dealer to get the switch but you can go to any parts store and get it and this will save you about 25-50% off the acura dealers price
You can try to take out the selector swith for the up/down-in/out direction, disconnect the socket, and spray the switch and the connector, with contact spray. Move the switch in all direction several time, connect the socket and, before you replace the switch, try to operate the mirror function. I have done this on my own car, with success.
